Default dropping markers during tracking/playback

Is there an option/preference to change the behaviour of dropping markers? At present my markers drop to Edit cursor, but I'd like to configure it so that in playback or tracking they drop at the current position on the timeline. Had a look in the manual but couldn't see any relevant info.

As always any help is grately appreciated.

The SWS extension has an action to do that and it will also work even if the position is off the viewing area.

Thanks Heda, do you know the name of the action? I went looking through the SWS actions and can't seem to find it.

Thanks so much guys. I had an older version of SWS extensions installed and this action wasn't included, so wasn't showing up when I did a search in the actions menu. Updated and now everything is working exactly as I wanted it to.

Your help is really appreciated.

Kind Regards,

S.

Maybe I'm not understanding the question but I just hit the M key on the keyboard and it drops a marker where ever the play curser is at that time during playback or recording. That way I can mark points during the recording (or playback) to return to edit or what ever.

I also seem to not be getting it. I use the stock Reaper "Insert marker at current position" and it works exactly as requested in the OP. Marker drops at playhead when playback/record is running. When stopped, marker drops at edit cursor.

Actually I don't see a stock Reaper action which would drop the marker at edit cursor when playback/record is running - only the SWS action "SWS/S&M: Insert marker at edit cursor" would do that as far as I know.

Me 3.

I just hit M as the song plays to drop markers for each section.

They should do that unless...

If your play cursor is not offscreen, you may have clicked in the arrange window after starting playback/recording:
