Default UPDATED May 22 2008 -! v2.207pre4/OSX0.96 mac preview build...

Edit: these builds are all outdated, new builds will go here:

http://www.cockos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21935

VERSIONS AFTER THIS LINE ARE OLDER, USE THE ONE ABOVE!

(old version updated May 22 2008):

http://www.reaper.fm/files/osx_early...07pre4_096.dmg

Changes:
  • Improved AU and VST compatability, especially on 10.5.x.
  • Addictive Drums still has some issues when resizing the UI -- this appears to be unsolvable, and no other host I tried allows you to resize plug-in UIs.
  • Camel 5000 still doesnt work in VST. I'm still amazed it does work in most other hosts! Seriously, wtf?
  • Lots of other updates (read whatsnew.txt for some of em)

Notes: Requires G4/G5 or Intel Mac, OS X 10.4.x.

Changes: TONS of updates. No AU support yet, but a TON of functionality is brought to parity with Windows. The docker, lots of windows, ReaMote support, external editor support, etc etc.

(April 27 2008)

www.reaper.fm/files/osx_early/reaper073.dmg

Notes: Requires G4/G5 or Intel Mac, OS X 10.4.x.

Changes: Better .DMG with better documentation, all of the goodies in 2.203, and some other fixes.

(Mar 11 2008):

www.reaper.fm/files/osx_early/reaper072.dmg

Notes: Requires G4/G5 or Intel Mac, OS X 10.4.x.

(Jan 1 2008)

http://reaper.fm/files/osx_early/reaper069.dmg

Notes: Requires G4/G5 or Intel Mac, OS X 10.4.x.

Changes: tons of stuff (scrollbars all around). no mixer yet but all the i/o, envelope windows are mostly there. also mostly up to 2.026 standards (slave support, etc).

(November 23 2007)

http://reaper.fm/files/osx_early/reaperosx_2012_060.dmg

Changes: tons of ReaPlugs (only a few left), other cleanups/improvements, about box, registration system (you can now enter your REAPER reg key, and get nagged from time to time). Also fixed 24 bit wav reading, and floating point wav read/write on PPC. Edit: just uploaded a fix for AIFF reading on PPC.

(November 18 2007)
http://reaper.fm/files/osx_early/reaperosx052.dmg

Changes: Reorganized directory structure on image (reaper.app, ColorThemes, Data, Effects, etc, all go in the same path). Included more builtin FX (ReaComp, ReaGate, ReaVerbate so far). Other stuff too but those are the biggies... Also a preview of something coming in 2.012 (hey the mac version is ahead of the windows, how did that happen?), check the project settings for a preview . Oh also as of this version REAPER on Mac/PPC Mac/i386 and Windows should be able to load/save eachothers Rea* VST configs, as well as third party plugins that support it.

(November 14 2007)

http://reaper.fm/files/osx_early/reaperosx051.dmg
Notes: Requires G4/G5 or Intel Mac, OS X 10.4.x.

Changes: Tons of internal updates, basic MIDI editor, keyboard system improved, right click+drag marquee selections, lots of extra little dialogs implemented.

There's a ton more to do but this is a good step.. still not terribly usable, though. But we're making some progress and should see a bunch more get done before the year is up.

http://reaper.fm/files/osx_early/reaperosx0.35U.dmg
Notes: Requires G4/G5 or Intel Mac, OS X 10.4.x.

Changes: latest reaper/win updates, some fixes, better support for JS effects (a simple generic UI for them, woohoo!).

(updated April 12 2007):
http://reaper.fm/files/osx_early/reaperosx0.30U.dmg
Notes: Requires G4/G5 or Intel Mac, OS X 10.4.x.

Changes: Color themes now settable (no editing yet though), bounce and render dialogs work (you can now export, yeah!), item takes submenus work, a lot of other small stuff. And a lot of the goodies from the windows version (new peaks, etc).

(old posts):

(updated March 7 2007):
http://reaper.fm/files/osx_early/reaperosx_020U.dmg

Changes: MIDI input/output support, included ReaSynth and ReaSyndr VSTs, VST fixes, tooltips and cursors in main edit view, transport BPM/selection display, project settings for record format now work, and tons of other updates from the Windows side... also included the demo project... and there's probably more too, but we've forgotten...

old post:

Here it is:

http://reaper.fm/files/osx_early/reaperosx0.11U.dmg

Universal Binary, ABSOLUTELY REQUIRES OS X 10.4.x (.9 is all I've tested with). Supporting 10.3.x in the future may be an option, but it isn't yet. For PPC machines, it needs a G4 or a G5.

This is super-alpha-preview-etc, so don't go saying "this button doesnt work" or "I can't set fade shapes" or "the takes dont appear in the takes submenu" or "X doesn't work".

Tons of stuff isn't in yet, but you can at least load projects and edit and save, etc..

you can load VST and JS fx, but can't access their UIs yet. You can automate them though.

so what feedback _DO_ I want then? I guess if it blows up in some repeatable fashion, I'd like to hear about that...

-Justin

UB apps can run on a least 10.2.x - and probably lower, though supporting anything less than 10.2 usually isn't worth the effort. You just have to compile the PPC part with GCC3 and build it against the 10.2 SDK - both are optional during the Xcode install.

Apple introduced some nice APIs in 10.4 so I wouldn't blame you for supporting anything less however...

Hi Justin,

I was so excited to run Reaper on my Mini G4... but after 15 seconds of colored spin ball nothing more happends.
I have tried several times with the same result.

I have 10.4.8 and the audio card is a USB Terractec Aureon 5.1, but it is the same without the card plugged.

Jim,

Do you have any VST plug-ins installed in /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST/ ?

If so, can you temporarily move them and see if that enables REAPER to start?

Thanks,

Justin

Yesssss !

And it is strange :
- I have removed the VST folder : Reaper starts
- I have restored the VST folder with all the same plugins inside : Reaper starts also now...

First tests with audio : there is sound, the automation plugins works... it is already great !

Two observations...

Shouldn't the dylibs be included in the application bundle?

Shouldn't the .ini files live in the preferences directory, even if they're not strictly pref files?

here's an update (I also updated the original post):

http://reaper.fm/files/reaperosx0.11U.dmg

VST configs should sort of work, cleaned up the .dmg (all the plug-ins go in the .app), the .ini goes in the ~/Library/REAPER/ directory, lots of other little stuff...

My WaveArts VST plugs show up in the list as they should, but when I add one to a track (TrackPlug in particular), the UI shows up but doesn't respond to any mouse actions. Exiting the app is the only way to get rid of the window.

No VST effects show up here...

I also was not able to record anything at all....

I was not able to find inputs from my firepod to change channels for each track... I was only able to get inputs 1/2 of I/O

I'm a brand new user, who is a recent convert to Mac's. Thank you kindly for your efforts, and for your willingness to include the Mac's in your efforts.

I've dabbled with programming in the past (http://tremor.quakedev.com), and although purely a hack, I would be happy to assist anyway I can.

Out of interest, how do you enable VST plugins to work on an Apple system? I don't know much about them, having only used a few for simple purposes, but was under the impression that they are usually compiled to x86 (DLLs). Sorry if I'm a real n00b for saying this!

Another brand new Mac user, had my MacBook for about a week or two now.

Loaded up both Reaper 0.1 and 0.11 alphas, both work great! Of course, haven't loaded any effects other than the Sonalksis demos, but those weren't detected.

Interface looks nice, it makes good use of the screen real estate. Also with CoreAudio it works great. Was able to playback through my laptop speakers and FireBox with no setup needed.

Thanks again for the effort and I'm looking forward to the added features! I'll give some feedback with future versions and testing.

10.3 support would be a very great idea if it is at all possible.

There's a lot of people out there in studioland on 10.3 who are happy with that release purely because their (last year's)protools hd still runs absolutely fine on it.

I'm not a mac person, but I'd like say 'try this guys' in a few places, and people won't want to upgrade their o/s just to try something new if their main o/s version already works, and serves no other function bar booting up just that one application.

I do think it's great that mac can now experience this, though. How awesome is that?

And Lo.. the Mac version of REAPER was born.

There were many who came to see the miracle - some in disbelief.

They brought gifts of praise, bug-reports, and requests for 10.3 compatibility.

Some even offered programming support.

It was truly Jesusonic.

Default Yes!

I just joined the message board so i can say this is GREAT! I just got a new Imac the other week (I use both PC and MAC these days) and I was saying to myself, "You know, it would be cool if I could get REAPER on the Mac."

And now that's practically true.

I was going to be buying Logic Pro in a few weeks but using Reaper is more than enough for the amount of audio work I do (I already use it on my PC in most situations).

Thank you so much for making the Mac version.

My only question (as I don't know a whole lot about programming) is when you create an update for the PC version will the MAC update be available at about the same time?

Once the mac version catches up to the PC version (which may be 6 months or so from now), then it will probably have a more relaxed release schedule (i.e. ~7 days behind the PC version).

Default Faders

Justin,

Will the faders for the Mac version stay on the left- as it is at present? It's just a bit weird having them there. (a bit too Garbageband for my liking hehe). As an old school type, I much prefer my faders from left to right- just like the PC version. Also will the Mac version have the brilliant Dock feature too??

One thing I dislike about Macs are all those floating windows. I'm not a big fan of Windows' 'all in one' feature either- especially with a 15" screen! Intuem has a neat little feature where if one moves the main screen around, any attached ones follow it too, making screen management a lot simpler. Perhaps a revolving cube, with different screens on different sides would be an interesting innovation?? Just a suggestion.

I can imagine that a revolving cube would be pretty sexy but CPU intensive - however, the Maize program mentioned elsewhere has the simple but effective feature of having ten buttons along the top of the interface which reveal ten different windows of stuff (gui's of effects and controls) that you can set up as you wish. Could be a handy way of displaying many FX gui's at once in Reaper, or its windows when other than docked (though I guess the docker tabs kind of work that way anyway... hmmm).

I'm going to be dropping some serious dough on a new daw in the next few months, and am seriously considering a MacPro (currently a PC user).

While Ableton Live is cross-platform, Sonar is not, and these are my main apps. Having Reaper fully ported for OSX would make for a near-seamless transition, as I have no desire to use Logic or Cubase.

So I will be following these developments with fingers crossed... :-)
