Default Monitor thru Headphones

Hi all,

I've done this successfully before (years ago) with my Fast Track Ultra interface to hear mic monitor thru headphones.

I right-clicked the armed Record button and set it to:
Monitor Input
Record Input
Input Mono

Using "Input 3" for mic input and have that chosen on the Reaper Board so I can hear mic.

I'm hearing the mic thru my speakers and not the headphones so a setting is wrong someplace.

Pref>Device is set to:
Output Device>Built in Output so I can hear the playback thru my speakers but I don't think that has an affect on the headphones monitoring.

Pref>Midi Devices is enabled for M-Audio Fast Track Ultra for input/output.

(I switch it to: M-Audio Fast Track and hear no playback at all so I don't think that's the issue.)

I'll continue searching and looking thru my "Reaper Power" book, screenshots from awhile ago and on the internet, but if someone has an idea, please let me know.

Thx!

I do not monitor through Reaper when I record.
I direct monitor through the TotalMix software that came with my RME Babyface (my interface).
so I have Reaper monitor set to "off".

but I am curious about your deal.
if I were trying to do what you are doing, the first thing I would do is look on the routing matrix, and see if I am routing signal to where I want it to go (headphones).

Hello,

I haven't used the Routing Matrix since I was fooling with buses and effects and have forgotten a lot!

It seems to be set up correctly in the screenshot.

I only have the recorded Channel 1 and (Trumpet) Channel 2 which I'm recording to.

No effects channel.

Yes, that post was in 2013 and it was years ago I used headphone monitoring on the M-Audio Fast Track.

Perhaps related to this issue, I use Wiretap Studio to record things occasionally and their "Live Preview" is also broken, and they say it is an Apple issue.

So, I don't really need the Live Monitor (I'm not singing, but playing trumpet) and you may have saved be hours of searching.

Thx to you both and I may get more involved in the Routing Matrix and effects as I progress . . . have to also relearn a few things!
