Default Multichannel item FX and plug-in pin connectors

I don't know if I post at the right section, perhaps it could be in the bugs section but have you ever tried this

- take a multichannel Item (in exemple 8 channels)
- drag any plug-in you want in that item and open the pin connector
- you can connect the plug only on channel 1-2. impossible to set to another channel?

It's doesn't make sense at all

Did anyone ever notice that strange behavior?

I reckon that you have to make the track multi-channel too - in the [io] button window

We requested more than 2 channels for item fx when it was first implemented but no joy sadly.

It's very sad, because multichannel items are fucking useful for drums editing and mixing

and with reasurround you could go completly crazy and if it could be available on items FX, it would be a bomb!

Hi,

I found this old topic while searching for someting else... but I can give some precision : multichannel ItemFX works, but only according to the number of channels of the audio file.

With the initial exemple from Reno, the pin connector must show 8 IO... of course, assuming that the plugin he has inserted has 8 channels.
There is only a little "bug" : the plugin pin connector is accurate only after playing the arrangement. When just inserted, there is always only two visible IO.

For using multichannel plugs like tne Reasurround on stereo files, as a workaround you can add some blank channels to the files before importing them in Reaper...

forget the I/O screen

Add one fx (reastream) look at it's pins now ( click the 2 in 2 out button)

CLICK THE + Sign then again then again then again

Each time you click the + sign you are telling reaper to auto plug into the next available channels.
This works auto because Reastream has 8 outs, this will not work auto for a plugin with 2 outs only

Thank god it's not auto for me as I would be going crazy unchecking every pin due to the way I work in Reaper

This is how I work in Reaper, pardon the lunatic and WTF method

I use a track as it's on daw.

WTF?

Add a vocal track, in the I/O make the track 4 channels ( too keep this simple example)

add a reberb. on the pins make it go out only on 1+2
Add a dealy on the pins make it go out only on 3+4 (1+2 is unchecked on outs)

Now add Reasurround at the end

Make sure it's IN pins are getting 1/2/3/4 then set Reasurround to STEREO
and place the channel balls where you want

I mix 90% of the time with this method LOL it works so why not.

Basically I am doing effects and final mixing within the track itself. I can add also mastering, comp or others on there before they hit the reasurround plugin

You can also mix the OUT pins from one FX to the INS of the next FX or keep them separate as Reasurround will be the final placer for all the channels

You can as you have notice add 4 effects and use 1 channel for Each FX to in the end have 4 channels to place in Reasurround and each channel containing a different fx

indeed right on.

A track in reaper is it's own daw if you add reasurround at the end of the fx list and route each vst plugin to a channel's out within the track itself then have reasurround place those channels in the stereo field.
