Great start Wolffman!
Do you plan on a big production or keep it simple?
Looking forward to more...
By the way, which one's Pink?

Good all around man, but what is really striking me is the tone you've achieved with the main guitar and the bass. They sound beautiful.

Sounds open, natural and musical to my ears. To me, this is done. I really enjoy your singing style, too. Simple yet super effective.
The only thing that bugged me were the repeated cymbal "pings," but that's just me.

Sounds cool. Reminds me of Roger Waters Pink Floyd. I would turn down the vocals and the reverb.

That's really great man!
The only thing I have to offer at this stage is that in the verses you need to do something to make the chord changes just a little more secure. For me, you either need to make the ethereal keyboard a bit less ethereal, or it may be something like bringing the bass up a little to nail the root notes.
Anyways up, really charmed by this great song!

Wheres my cigar ? ( it did turn out a little floydish didn't it )
Its not going to be a huge production, were just going to try out some more guitar bits and possibly some harmony vocals if we can pull them of ok.

Thanks KF, i miced up my old Jansen 6 watt amp with an sm57 and the bass is just straight into my interface, im stoked to get a comment on the bass sound, i,ve been strugling for years with getting bass right in the mix.

I don,t usually use a lot of reverb but in this song because its about how dreams are so wild and ramdom i thought it would add to that theme, i'll surely keep this in mind when finishing up the mix.
Thanks.

Hi spike, thanks for the input.
We are adding another guitar part which should help define the changes more, although i was actually going for a very sureal/dreamy kind of feel to the song being as its about dreams and all, but i sure dont want it to sound washed out or undifined, hopefully the new guitar part will address that without loosing the dreamyness i'm trying to achieve.
Thanks again.
Thankyou all for your comments and critique, i'll update the thread when we have added the extra parts.
Cheers

yes i realy liked this aswell... great lead guitar
the main weakness with it at the moment id say is the vocal needs a bit of work... whatever effect youve got on it it doesnt seem to sit right with the backing
& there were some notes that sounded a bit strained paticularly near the end..maybe you should double the vocal in places to make it stronger
hope you dont mind me being critical!

Nice tune, nice sounds.
Very good guitar solo.
I just find a bit "uncomfortable" (eh eh I was looking for a pinky word) the reverb on vocals (or slapback or whatever it is), since it sounds too heavy on "s", "t", "c". That's IMHO, anyway.

Not at all, constructive criticism is what posting a WIP is all about, for me anyway.
This song still needs quite a lot of work in areas, especially the vocals, these vocals are actually just a 1st take to get my idea for the melody down and sent to my collaborator to see if he liked the idea.
RE: the vocal effects, theres only reverb & delay but i might have gone overboard trying to get that dreamy type of sound to go with the lyrics.
Just trying to beat the song into shape ATM
Appreciate your thoughts.

Heres an update on the mix.
Added some more guitar parts
reduced the ride bell, and other general mix tweeks, trying to achieve better clarity.
Still going to do harmony vocals asap.

Well i'm calling this finished, my mate sent me the backing vocals he recorded which were done to what i'd done originally so i didn't rerecord my vocal part, ( which i know could be better )
I also did some more mix tweaks especially with the reverbs, i was trying to get a full but spacious sound, i think i got some of the way there but i still struggle with reverb & delay, might have to buy a good reverb one day and learn how to use Readelay properly.

Please let me know what you think, good or bad, i can take it

I could only listen to the second and last incarnations (the first won't play). But the development has been really great. Definitely Pink! I especially like the arrangement of the song and the contrast between the verby/dreamy guitar panned left and the staccato, dry guitar to the right. Very effective. Great bass tone too.

I'm a fan!

Wolffman - could you talk a bit about how you programmed the drums? I bought Jamstix back when it was on sale recently, but haven't had the chance to mess with it yet. Would love to hear what you did to achieve your fine drum track.

Hmmm, thats a while back now Kyle, about a year now but what i generally do is this.
I start by manually placing the kick and snare in the grid in jamstix to get the basic feel for the song.
Then i quickly make a basic song structure so i can get jamstix to do accents, fills etc to see how everything feels.
Now i'll play with styles & drummers until its how i want it.
Once JS has done the entire song i'll go through all the accents & fills and recompose ( using JS, not manually ) any parts i don't like and lock them so they won't change in the future.
Thats pretty much it really, i'll more then likely change things here and there as the song progresses, but that all depends if i'm serious about the song or if its just another demo for the song archieve, you know, something i might persue later on.
Hope that helps some, Jamstix is a good program for writing songs, i find it much better than brousing through midi grooves, but ymmv.
It takes a while to learn how JS ticks but it all falls into place fairly quick once you start to use it.
Cheers

Thanks man. That doesn't sound too daunting. Didn't mean to tax your memory like that - I hadn't noticed the date on OP!

i hear more Gilmour than Waters, but just a 'reminds me of' and not much deeper. more originality to it than that. absolutely luv the kick in this. hell, i listened again just to hear it some more! really moody song.
