Default Can Track Folders act as VCAs?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I've looked through the forum but haven't found an answer.

Track folders are just the best thing ever...so quick and give you collapsable bus functionality immediately, but of course suffer certain problems like not affecting send volumes for the child tracks...like if a bunch of child tracks are sending to reverb and you decide to drop the folder by 6dB, the reverb sends stays the same volume instead of dropping.

The upcoming VCAs solve this, but can those tracks also act as folder tracks with all their wonderful features?

Thanks!

Sure, but, if you just let the Folder be the VCA master, the children will be doubly attenuated by the fader.

You can just simply bus the Folder output PRE-fader to some other sub bus.

This, of course, can effect any dynamic effects on the Folder itself - but this is the case with VCA's anyway.

If you want to have your cake (ease of VCA) and eat it too (slamming the Folder comp) you can set up some esoteric routing scheme. See here http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=121104

Or another option, .... well I'll make an .rpp to explain..

Ok so you nest some preFX busses in your folder, send to those and not the FX themselves. Untick the Parent sends of the pre-FX tracks, and send them to the appropriate FX.

Make the folder VCA Masters of preFX tracks.

You could even just have 1 preFX track in the folder and send to / from it on multiple channels.

Thanks! My exact concern was that it would double-reduce the track volume and single-reduce the sends, which is even more messed up. I'll try these suggestions, thanks! Would be nice to click a single check-box on a folder and set it to VCA Master and all children to VCA Slave. The ultimate VCA-Folder combo. Devs?
