Default REABORN 2 theme (by Nick Moritz)

Hello guys.
As I promised I share with you the result of my painstaking and continuous work. Please welcome the Reaborn Theme v2.

DOWNLOAD PAGE (+ screenshots)

direct download

I worked on it in my spare time. That is why it took a year to finish it. It absorbed the best graphic ideas of modern DAWs and some good ideas from this forum. Actually I wouldn't say its a version of the Reaborn, it rather a new theme, but since it is based on the Reaborn elements, I left the Reaborn name.

Let me share what i planned to improve and add in future:
  • WALTER code optimisation and improvement
  • compact version with low resolution for laptops and PADs
  • additional layers (in style of hardware consoles)
  • several additional tcp-layers
  • layer for external transport panel
  • additional toolbar icons
  • variations of animated knobs

As you can see there is a lot of work and I understand that it can take a year or two to embody it if I will work in spare time.

If you are interested in add-ons - here is you can cursors and track icons.

BTW, several words about features of the theme.
  • Choose the layers with "fancy knobs" words in the name (both TCP and MCP) and set them as default.
  • The theme is designed for modern displays (resolution must be not less then 1920x1080)
  • MCP backgrounds can not be tinted (only for a half). It was made intentionally.
  • Mixer MCPs do not have the compact/hide option
  • The maximum value of your volume fader range should be +8dB (please check the VU Meters/Faders tab in your Preferences)

It's great Nick

Couple of things so far - I am using a laptop, but my screen res is 1920x1200

1) Mcp min height seems too small - master mcp scroll aligned layout bg compresses at low mcp heights. Also, when the scrollbar displays, track IO buttons are cut off at the top. Looks as though it's intended to fit correctly if the scrollbar is visible and have a bit of extra space if not.

2) Tcp space-allocation regarding track names - names are important - they're not prioritised enough imo. Fx chain button should be hidden rather than letting the track name compress to nearly nothing.

Fyi it's now possible with walter to adjust the mcp extmixer sendlist area slot heights (independently of the rest of the extmixer) so that you can have meters below the send label, without being squashed ... improves readability imo.

Though you probably know this already, fancy pan/width images do not work properly with all pan modes - that's really down to JCS to sort out - right-pan knob should be either a dup of the normal pan image, or its own image ... NOT a dup of the width ... makes zero sense

Incredible! love the fancy knobs.

One small bug I noticed on OS X. The readout text for volume, pan and width in the TCP looks like it has a vertical offset (see attached).

Thanks for the fantastic theme. Now I have to decide between this and RADO, crap......

What OSX version are you on? I'm on 10.6.8 and I'm not seeing that issue.

You should install the "Calibri" font.

Well within a couple sec I think I can get use to just the top section of MCP being tinted.

THis looks so Pro!! I like it some much better then the newer ones that every one is trying so hard to make look like real consoles.
They are neat but in a work session I find them distracting. This I feel like I'm not distracted by what I'm looking at for hours on end.

OK, let's clear about support.

I need 150 contributors till the end of Septemer. If we dont collect the necesary quantity, those who supported me by buying my products will be receiving updates after each update is ready. Others will receive the updates, after the total plan will be made.

Each sunday I'll update the total number of sales since today.

Thanks!

The amount of work you put into this is amazing.

The buttons and controls are too small and flat for my tastes though.

OK, as I promised it's time to share some information with you.

Now we have 7 supporters (read the original post for the information).

-------------------------------

Be honest, I decided to close the support opportunity in the end of September because of low activity (as you can see)

I remind, those who supports me by buying any of my products (LPD or EB) will get the premium frequent updates of the theme and those who have bought both products will have an opportunity to take part in the development of the theme personally. The rest will get the public updates.

BTW, those who have bought my products please PM me your share-it reference number of the purchase and I'll send you first update.

Thanks to all!

Cheers,
Nick

Thanks for your great themes. I voted that I like Reaborn2, though I still prefer your RADO. But I stole your transport_bg.png from Reaborn2, adjusted the rtconfig and inserted it into my customized RADO theme.

So I went ahead and purchased Epic Battle to help with the effort (plus it looks pretty cool and usable!). I really like the way my modified theme is shaping up:

Doesn't surprise me, the number of people who SAY they will contribute, and the number that actually do.. is always vastly different.

I know, been there.. done that.

That's why no one could ever survive on donations.

7 People , That sucks Sorry to hear you got so little support for so much hard work.

Can you explain what you mean by "those who have bought both products will have an opportunity to take part in the development of the theme personally."

Best Regard Jed

Awesome work, Nick!

One thing I dislike, though, is that the background for Windows 3D elements are not the same color as the toolbars. It is visually too detracting, at least for me.

I'm still hung up on your older RADO version. It is just awesome! In fact, I just tried ReaBorn 2 with RADO theme editor colors (as per my edits of that), and everything is awesome, except the toolbar buttons are way too bright in contrast now...:

I think you could replace the toolbar background icon by WhiteTie's one from the Imperial theme.

the track meter seems not to be working on this theme?

Not seeing meters in tcp (only mastertrack has them), no matter how wide or tall I drag the tcp panel. Am I missing something? The rightmost vertical line seems perfect for a thin meter, but it doesn't seem to be it.

I cannot reduce the mixer panel very much which only leaves a small track screen. This is bothersome.

If you don't have enough monitor 'real estate'... I suggest you use one of the other themes.

Complaining about a theme because 'your' monitor is too small just doesn't make any sense.

It's probably less money to buy a new monitor on the user end then it is for Nick's time to make a theme for each persons needs.

+1 Exactly the same here... No meters, no matter what TCP layout I use, or the size I stretch it to.

I DID see a meter ONE time but as soon as I changed layout... gone again.

My Res. is 1920x1200.

I'm seeing now horizontal meters in tcp using "Fancy Sliders" layout, but they are in second or third row and they seem to come and go erratically as I switch layouts...

EDIT: I am no WALTER expert, but looking at the tcp layouts I see not all have clear tcp directive so they could vary depending on what layout is chosen before them?

This layout does not have any meter. Try another layout, with "fancy sliders" for example.

P.S. Read please OP till the end (the text below screenshots)

Nick,
Awesome theme. I just ordered "Epic Battle" and I am looking forward to using it right along side REABORN 2!

Right now I'm limited to a Macbbok Pro with 1440x900 resolution. Lookijng forward to seeing the laptop version until I can upgrade my system.

Question: Would combining another monitor to my MBP get me better results with REABORN 2?

Thank you Nick for your work!

I like the "minimalist" TCP layout. I was wondering if in the future there could be space-saving re-sizing of the TCP like RADO. And then there could be "mini-minimalist" TCP layout.

I like that too on "your screenshot" but when I select it.. I have nothing but the track name. Yet unlike other I can get meters in the other settings.
I wanted to try this one but I loose the vol/pan controls.

Really weird that it's displaying differently for everyone.
