Although I am pretty tired of this thread already...Just wanted to pop in and say that my iLok dongle failed once I took it from the desktop Windows machine and tried it in OS-X on my Macbook! I did get it working eventually but that experience certainly wasn't very promising. So, a software/driver failure already. iLok sure seems like a great thing to have! Carry on...

Lol.

Yeah, iLok threads are kinda like PT threads, you have to filter them. The rest of it is... (partly, certainly not you though) ... via implication...

"I had a bad experience so it must also suck for everybody else. That's a fact."

You see the same with daws. Guy tries daw x, it kinda goes to shit for any number of reasons, and from that point forward into perpetuity, daw x sucks and that's the truth, end of story.

We tend to often enough create and reinforce our own realities.

If iLok didn't work reliably the vast majority of professional studios using them wouldn't be using them, occasional random horror stories aside.

And let us not forget that iLok is not JUST for use with music software.
Only a small part of their market

There are programs that I really want with Ilok, it's a necessary evil at the moment but still necessary. I think their last snafu when they lost Waves was bad enough that it won't happen again, that had to hurt a lot.
