Default 128th grid snapping?

Hello- there seems to be a problem with snapping events at 128th grid settings? REAPER 6.16

It might not be a bug... the MIDI (as any data) has limited resolution so are you sure you're not pushing up against that resolution with 128th notes?

^^ In that regard increasing the 'Ticks per quarter note' setting in Preferences might help (didn't test though).

Ah yes 240 is too low (or at least not a multiple of 128) -- try 1920

Oh ok- that works...oops not sure >why< i changed that tbh! default is 960?
I guess devs know best settings for most uses and some things should just be left alone.
Please remove post as you see fit.
Thanks.

What ever you change it to, you want to choose a number that has a lot of numbers it divides evenly to. Since music is almost always divisions of 2,3,4,8,16 etc...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highly_composite_number

Or you can just choose 1920 as Justin proposed and forgetabout it

Divisors of 960 are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 20, 24, 30, 32, 40, 48, 60, 64, 80, 96, 120, 160, 192, 240, 320, 480, 960

When for 1920: they are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 20, 24, 30, 32, 40, 48, 60, 64, 80, 96, 120, 128, 160, 192, 240, 320, 384, 480, 640, 960, 1920

Ahh - that is all good to know!
Still would rather somethings just remain hidden and not tweakable if they are to break default behaviors for stability and logical uses.
Customizing is great, but if it breaks something for standard uses and introduces a user error, then not so much sense in the tweak being available?
Thanks.

I do understand the sentiment, but as a power user I can see few cases (edge cases, but cases none the less) being able to change this particular setting would be advantageous.

But there needs to be limit in protecting user from themselves. I mean, "Computers do what one tells them to, not what they want them to."

And REAPER's philosophy seems to be that Cockos does not even pretend to know what kind of settings you want to have for your software, how you want to software to be and act like, what you're going to use it for... thus idea is not to hide or dictate stuff for the user since there's always someone who's gonna do "HEY; there needs to be setting for this because [my niché use case]!"... so... why not allow everything to be tweaked?

Apple is one of those companies that often tries to be smarter than the user, hiding everything, not allowing any customization or settings and if the ones chosen by Apple doesn't work for you, tough luck. You just don't understand the magic of Apple.

And I always find that a bit bizarre way to think ;D

I mean, my REAPER configuration differs from default so much after a decade of using it, that if you put me in front of stock REAPER installation, I can barely get anything done.

And that's why I carry a USB-stick with my REAPER config files on it. (And REAPER installation file)
