Default sonogram for audio clips

Hello to all.

It will be helpful if reaper could display sonogram for each audio clip. Like audacity. Is there any possibility for that ??

Would that be something like a histogram that I have seen in Photoshop?

Why not let Audacity (or Waveosaur or any other free tool) do that? Just set Audacity up as external editor, double-click the media item and off you go. Yes, if you want to view sonograms of all your items simultaneously, then this will not be a very good solution, but still... Not?

Sonogram is different from histogram.

Also Fabian as you said i can let Audacity for sonogram display. This is what i do now, but i think that it will be very useful for me to have integrated sonograms inside reaper. I will gain too much time from switching between programs. I do not like audacity editing, so if reaper had sonogram i could edit audio much faster.

Also Sonogram is something that many programs have. I do not understand you Fabian that if audacity has it , leave it in audacity. So, we may leave reaper as it is. In software development there are no rules as you may know and those who brake the rules in an intelligent way are successful.

I understand that sonograms is not useful in all users. It is more useful in those who compose a more electronic style of music. Not all electronic music, but that who uses spectrum as a major component of musical form. Electroacoustic music of course, experimental, ambient, etc

Spectrogram is probably more common term in audio, vote for the feature here:

Well... I guess you are right that there are already stuff inside Reaper that is not useful to all users, and I understand that this particular feature would be good for you. I wasn't really against it, if the devs implement it wont be of any use to me (at the moment) but as long as it is not in the way of other stuff that is useful to me, fine...

However, I sometimes use Waveosaur to do things that would maybe, just maybe, gain me some time or whatever if I could do directly in Reaper, but I think it works fine, just double-click and edit... It's almost as if it was directly implemented in Reaper, and so I'm fine.

So, what I was after was your specific idea and reason of why Audacity as external editor does not work for you. Are you thinking real-time showing of the sonograms?

OH.. BTW, Spectro shows you sonogram, doesn't it?

I can't understand real time spectrogram. Just as a clip shows it's waveform it can shows his spectrogram. The problem for me is not so in editing a single clip, but the possibility of seeing together all the clips and their occupancy in spectrum. for example seeing three clips that sound together how they behave in spectrum. Also after some period of using spectrogram someone can understand something about the morphology of the sound. The waveform is not give too musch information as a spectrogram.

You might try Schwa's Spectro. It allows you to work with the spectrum immediately as well (non destructive!!!). It's really a fine VST.
