Default Anyone Using Arturia Keylab with Reaper?

I'm looking at picking up the Arturia Keylab 88 and give it a spin!

Has anyone used it to control Reaper yet like the faders, etc?

Here's a link to the 88

Thanks!

Default Yes

Yes, and the integration with Reaper sucks. Getting the knobs to work properly is impossible without dozens of hacks and using OSC.

I tried bitwig studio and was blown away at how seemless and effortless the integration was with the keylab... it was literally "install and go" simplicity.

Its too bad... I invested several weeks getting to know reaper, and was about to buy it. Judging from the various complaints on cockos forums, it looks as though reaper is never going to have descent controller intergration.

It's not reapers fault, it's Arturia. I returned the Arturia and got the Nektar P6. Nektar designed their software to work with Reaper just like Cubase, Reason, etc., and blows away everything else out there!

Here's a thread about it!

Default Hmmmm

Hi Jamie,

So... the Keylab is a vanilla midi controller with similar capabilities to the Akai MPK, M-Audio Oxygen, etc. I've tried everything to get Reapers working properly with the board, and so far no dice.

What works:
- Playing keys
- Controlling FX with knobs and faders using "absolute mode"
- Controlling Tracks (volume & pan)

What doesn't work:
- Controlling FX with knobs and faders using "relative mode"
- Feedback to keyboard of on-screen changes to FX parameters.

... and this last point is the deal breaker - because it means that every time you touch a knob, the FX parameter jumps (or needs to use soft take-over).

I've placed Midi-OX between the keylab and reaper... the Keylab sends all the right MIDI messages, but reapers sends absolutely nothing back (with the exception of volume & pan changes). Looking at the control surface API, it seems as though reaper is incapable of providing a return feed for FX parameter changes.
So far, the closest thing to a solution is to use OSC, which is particularly cumbersome.

Compare this to the BitWig...

1) Install Bitwig
2) Plug in the keylab

... at which point, the Keylab display shows you which FX parameter you're editing. There's no jumping when switching between tracks/fx. It all just works.

Why can't the reaper developers get this right?

Hmmm... I would suggest going on that thread I posed regardin the Nektar and Reaper and ask them about the Keylab vs the Nektar. I know that the Keylab has had issues with end-user in general and a lot of guys prefer the Nektar. Its a WAY better build and unless you need the Keylab for the software (which I have all Arturia's synths anyway) then I'd just get the Nektar myself vs. fight with it.

But that's just me.

Sorry I couldn't help more. I sent the Keylab back before I even opened the box and got the Nektar because the Nektar is just better all around. You have a master motorized fader, better display, semi-weighted keys, etc.
