What I do, which may be convoluted, is pop the video file into Reaper and render it as a wav file.

Then I import the wav file and massage it to my heart's content.

When I'm happy I add that wav file as an extra audio track in Lightworks and delete the original audio.

Trimming and video effects after the audio has been added - so I don't have synchronization issues. Since I have only the free version of Lightworks I am limited to YouTube quality MP4s, but that's what I upload.

There are other video editors but I'm used to this workflow.

I think you might need to use another program to link the REAPER to your media Player. I haven't tried this myself, but have a look at Jack;

I'm not sure why we can't do this in REAPER. It's easy enough in Audacity.

As kulich suggests, it would probably be easier, and perhaps give better results, if you convert the video and import it directly into REAPER.

Super easy with Audacity. No need to muck up your DAW settings
