Default Side chain gating not ducking

I set up 2 channels. Track 1 is a kick pattern(4on the floor). Track 2 is a sustained bass note for a bar.

I added a compressor to the bass.
I added a new send from the kick to the bass track and changed the one drop down to 3/4 as several tutorials suggested.

Instead of ducking, I get gating. The bass only plays when the kick is sounding. I tried it with ReaComp and Fabfilter Pro C and get the same effect. Has Reaper changed the way side chains work with the latest version?
Any help would be appreciated.

- Did you accidentally check "Preview filter" in the bottom-right corner?

- Did you accidentally load ReaGate instead of ReaComp? They look similar enough that it could slip past you.

Hey guys thanks for the quick response. I have it working, pretty sure why. I pulled up the Reaper Mania tutorial with KG. The only thing different I noticed was the pre fader post fx setting. The other tutorials did not mention it.
