Default Fox twin trilogy - acapella

I don't remember hearing any recordings by a female vocal group posted on the forum so I thought this demo video of Fox Twin Trilogy

http://vimeo.com/108272724

might be of interest to some of you. The tune is a cover of "Call Your Girlfriend".

The audio was recorded using Reaper in my son's Sweetfoot studios. Because the song was performed acapella, recording was stripped to the barest essentials. You may notice microphones magically changing during the video - reflecting filming during trial and error mic selection leading up to recording the final version of the audio.

love the sound of the recording. "cozy" is the closest word that comes to mind. maybe "intimate" second.

was the blond a young Linda McCarney???

Thanks. Very fascinating how much of their singing is in their eyes. In the looks. I like hearing a few bumps and quivers in the performance. Quite human, along with the video of the faces, and the topic of the lyrics. Terrif.

Thanks for the listen Sammydix an Msore. Sammy, I think the "intimate" sound comes from letting the mics and room do the work starting by picking mics that work well with the singers voice. The tracking room here is acoustically treated but is not acoustically dead, so you are hearing natural reverb, but not too much of it. Recordings that Shea does often have that intimate feel. I suspect that one reason is that he uses reverb plugins sparingly.

Msore, bumps and and quivers were intentionally left in place. This is exactly what you would hear if you listened to Fox Twin Trilogy live. It would have been easy to autotune or retrack, but that would make the demo less honest. The girls will be happy to hear you liked the performance despite bobbles.

I loved this and the recording was ideal for the purpose I think. I listened to it before watching it and it sounded intimate without feeling "small" if that makes sense.
More please.

By the way, tspring, the writing of the lyrics was terrific. The song had focus, reality, poignancy, attitude, and still came off as lyrical! Whoever wrote that will do some great songs in the future. (melody was perfect too)

Yeah, I missed that. I wouldve known if the song was a cover of a Miles tune. haha. Good thing I don't make errors like that when I am talking about politics!

The strange thing is, I was in Bangkok in 2010, shielded from most western pop music, I can't remember hearing this song before in my life, and yet I recognised it immediately. If I had to name a song by Robyn, it would probably be Brenda's Iron Sledge....

Really nice - good recording. It could have been mixed a little different imo - more low end in the accompanying vocals and perhaps some slightly different eq decisions to the lead vocal to put a little more warmth in there. Could also benefit from some subtle mono reverbs too maybe - more wet on the accompanying vocals to put them a bit further back from the lead. Seems a tad too 'flat' (read 'conservative') eq wise. Still very nice though.

If he did, it would probably have fish in it. I thought just one person on this forum would catch my reference, and I thought it would be you....
