Default Why Can't I Take Takes?

I'm doing exactly when the manual says: Set Record mode to Normal. Disabled Free Item Positioning. When I record multiple passes it stacks them above each other, but it shows them as separate items but not as takes.
Any help appreciated.

Are they items or takes? If you look in item properties does it show 1-take items or multiple takes?

I'm not in front of REAPER, but I think there are a couple of preference settings that can affect display of takes.

Options => New Recording that overlap existing media => Splits existing items and creates new takes

I guess you have that unchecked, that's why no takes for you

Reaper has 2 modes for recording 'takes'.

Overdub mode:
Where you are recording multiple attempts at a part to either pick from or comp from.

Options > New Recording that overlap existing media > Creates new media items in separate lanes

Your new takes record as normal and multiple takes will stack up in lanes in your recording track. Drag around and edit the items like normal.

Interleaved mode:
Where you are adding multiple audio streams (ie. channels) to a single item with each multiple take.

Options > New Recording that overlap existing media > Splits existing items and creates new takes

New takes are added to the first item you recorded as additional audio streams. This mode has a soloing-like feature to quickly select between takes but editing is restricted. The item edits as a single item (just like both channels of a stereo file edit together).

SOLVED! It was Options=>New Recording that OverLaps Existing Items=>Always Add Takes to new recorded items while looping

Thanks all.
