Default Keyboard Shortcuts Don't Work When FX Window Open

I like to hit W to take me back to the beginning of a song, but have noticed that if I have any FX open, the keyboard defaults to the FX window and hitting W will not work. I just get a warning beep. In order to get it to work I have to close the FX window.

Does anyone know of a way around this? I'd like to be able to use key commands when an FX window is open.

Apparently no one knows the answer to this. I found an action that shifts focus to the tracks and allows you to keep the fx window open, so I created a custom action. But it only seems to work intermittently.

+1 on this, it's pretty annoying.

In mi case (5.40, Win7), I lose use of the shortcuts whenever I have focus on a FX window. But then,
SPACE BAR for PLAY/STOP does work. Or my shortcuts for cycling among my inserts and the one for closing them, probably having something to do with the FX window being focused. Then why not all the rest?

EDIT - This seems to be the thread to go:
