Default Two monitors

I'm about to get a second monitor set up. If you use two, how do you use them (what's on what screen) and how well does it work? Any tips for setup?

Ta!

you need to have a video card that will support two monitors...

if you do there will be setting about how you want the displays to work...

I always have two...

the way I do it, you can put whatever you want on each of them...

I use two monitors, unfortunately not of the same size. Left, 1920x1080 mixer , right, 1920x1200 main window, tcp , arrangement & fx.

If I had to do it over, I would get two "identical" monitors, with very thin bezels...this way, my one screenset that allows the TCP only, to span both monitors, will have each track line up perfectly between the two...with only a thin bezel (x2) to break up the continuous tracks.

I use 2 24" monitors with the same resolution but not identical brands. The colors don't match each other very well, but I don't mind. I have the right monitor for the arrange view and the left monitor for the mixer and plugin windows. Midi editor usually goes on the right screen over top of the arrange view.

I have read that unplugging one monitor is a good way to check your mix for mono compatibility, but that has never worked for me.

I have two monitors in both studios...my work studio I have two side by side but they are slightly different sizes. I use one for edit window and second for mixer/plugins. At my home studio I have two but horizontally (one on top of other)the one I use for edit window is a 42 inch TV mounted to the wall and the second a 24 inch monitor on my desk for mixer. You can configure which monitor is primary. All I can truly say is once you start using dual screens it's almost impossible to go back to 1!

I basically do the same, except I actually use three monitors on my main desk: a laptop screen and two external monitors, one tipped on vertical axis.

I use the "big" monitor mostly for the tracks view or mixer view, the laptop screen for plugins and edit windows, and the vertical monitor for scores/documentation/web-browser, etc.

Any suggestions or things to look for in a video card other than the fact that it supports two monitors? One better than the other? Features, etc.?

well Jeff, for me yes

the monitors I use are DVI, so I want a card that supports that and that also supports both monitors in hi resolutions

mine are both 2560 by 1600 they are the 30 inch Dell's [I got a deal on a set of used ones, could never afford them new but wish I could]

I prefer NVIDIA chipset cards...

after that, I'd say it's up to you how powerful and\or costly the card is.

I have the GeForce GTX 560 Ti in this pc mine is made by EVGA

the DVI sockets come in two configs and most damn cards give you one of each... which sucks to me... as you then need an adapter for one of them IF your monitor cables are like mine...

the 560Ti gives me two of the same kind I need.

you also need the correct cables [for my monitors] some cables will not correctly support dual monitors...

^^^^^ yup, as usual hopi is spot on.

Just an FYI.

Here (in Canada) there are some pretty good deals on 21:9 format these days.

Just picked up a pair of AOC 2560x1080 AH-IPS LED for $400 each.

Nice aspect ratio for editing audio/video (also lots of screen real estate for Visual Studio).

Real nice panels !
