Default TCP colours - can they be made stronger?

The TCP colors of each track are faded, apart from on the track number bit. Can the whole TCP strip be made to be the full-strength colour?

Thanks

You have to edit the theme. Track coloring is determined by how solid or transparent the panel image is - solid gets no color, 100% transparent gets only color.

The files in question are:

mcp_bg.png
mcp_bgsel.png
tcp_bg.png
tcp_bgsel.png

OK. Great. But how/where do you accomplish this? This is the only thing I want to change, but All my searching kept turning up the same phrase - 'change the transparency...' but nowhere mentions the where and how.

Thanks for any help.

Edit: I got to this thread via a search and assumed it was in 'Color Themes' - (doesn't really belong here in 'General...'). Sorry for continuing the misplacement.

Like Lokasenna said earlier, you'll have to edit the actual panel images;
tcp_bg.png (track panel), tcp_bgsel.png (selected track panel), mcp_bg.png (mixer panel) and mcp_bgsel.png (selected mixer panel).

All the theme images are inside the theme file, for example in the case of the default theme, Default_5.0.ReaperThemeZip. There are different ways to open the theme package like renaming the theme to blah.ReaperTheme.Zip, using 7zip to open it etc. Inside this theme file (package) you'll find a separate folder which has all the theme images and the rtconfig file. So you'll get the aforementioned images out of there and open them with any graphic editor which allows you to edit the transparency of those images. Once you have edited the transparency, you'll have to save and copy those images back inside the theme.

Working with a renamed theme copy recommended, so you won't destroy the original no matter what happens.

Here's a the track control panel image for the 5.0 Default theme with 25% opacity for the overlay part.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...PER/tcp_bg.png

Editing the opacity is slightly more involved than just adjusting the opacity of the png, and you actually can't do that with the default theme tcp background, since that would change the values of the pink lines which the theme engine uses to know which parts to stretch.

Best way imo is to recreate the image in a vector app like Illustrator or Inkscape, this ensures crisp and pure colours, and adjusting the overlay part separately.

I totally recommend Gimp, easy to use and not that hard to learn. I have been using it for only 2 weeks and now the theme editing is a really easier task!

Also remember to use layers and that the pink lines have to be intact on the top layer, just cut/paste them on the top and then work on your other layer(s). Otherwise the pink lines can become visible inside Reaper after the change in transparency or just that the image looks weird.
