Default Transients or stretch markers

Hi guys, I want to write my project scenario for you, so I can understand what i have to do.
I have two audio tracks: 1. Audio intrumental (4/4 beat) track made in Ableton
2. Audio vocal track (acapella) recorded from youtube.
Instrumental track is 124 bpm.
I do not know what bpm the vocal track is.

I want to syncronize/match the vocal track with the instrumental track.
Problem is , Im not quite sure which method should i use....
Are transients just for beats?

Would appreciate to know some steps to follow!

Thanks for your time!

Hi. This is not my area of expertise but until someone else with more knowledge comes along here's my thoughts.

1. I don't know if beat detection would work but why not try? Or could you not simply count along with the vocal track and find out the tempo by ear? The time line will allow you to e.g.see how many beats in 30 seconds.

2. Alternatively post the file or the link and ask the REAPER community to help!

3. To synch the tracks (Assuming they are not perfect as they are!) you need to decide whether to timestretch the vocals or the backing track. My guess is the vocals will be less consistent in their timing so unless there are other considerations then work on these. So if you vocals are 93 bpm then speed them up by a factor of 124/93 or 4/3 or 1.33 approx. (I hope I have got the maths right!)

4. Be prepared to get down and dirty with stretch markers to account for drift in synch.

As I say these are just my ideas so they may not be accurate or viable but may help a bit.
