Default WDM or Asio?

I've always used asio drivers in my multiface but wdm is available. What are the differences, advantages, drawbacks? Never given this much thought at all.

Some find WDM gives better stability and/or latency than ASIO. It's not always a given that ASIO is going to be better.

Also, you can have multiple programs using WDM drivers, whereas ASIO only works with one device at a time.

Fer instance, I'm using FL studio and reaper, FL Studio is running WDM, and reaper is using ASIO. I'm not using FL inside of Reaper due to a most unsightly lockup when opening FL as a VSTi.

I don't understand what the hype is about ASIO, it's been a dysfunctional I/O for me. I don't even think twice about using WDM.

But what is your latency with WDM?

You could also use ReaRoute with FL

ASIO has always is alwasy the better way to go if you want lower latencies with lower CPU load. YOu will be dependent on your system being fast enough, properly optimized for audio and especially on the sound card manufactuerer to properly code thier ASIO driver.

THe Vista WAVE RT driver is the only thing that might possibly replace ASIO. But it being microsoft I expect it to change spec enough times that developers won;t be moving to fast on that support sense they will constantly be at the mercy of Microsoft.
