Lyrics
(Google translate)
Quote:
1. A woman sets her house
Between tablecloths and silverware
And a gray and lazy cat
She dreams about about hearing a song
About everything she could be once
Ref:
Oh, sing my song
To trubadur, sing my song
Only I'll hear it once
Oh, sing my song
2. A girl she sits on her knees
Her father he has said
That everyone must pray
Therefore she prys as beautifully as she can
About a freer world some time
ref.
Instr.
3. A man he struggles and pulls
It is stew and sweat
On the job he has
But every morning when the sun rises
Does he remember a dream about something great
Ref
4. A woman she walks stiff
She is old
But remember her fresh youth
The time she could run and smile
But in a song she can still do so
ref.
Instr.2
5. The trubadure he sings and hums
While in words, sounds and tones
He lets the adventure happen
And then he drives the stars forward
So the dreams can come home

The accordion should be panned more opposite to the guitar in the beginning or the 'pan balance' could be improved
The piano could be more 'more'? more prescence? not sure really.
Sorry for my confusing comments

Hi Geir, I like it, it's a very cute folksy song.
My first impression is, that it's way to dry especially the Bandoneon, which I assume is some kind of an accordion? Maybe you want everything dry, I'm not sure, what are you going for with this song.
The percussion is rather steady, at one level, and kind of mundane, at least for me, and it seemed a little distracting.
I think the Bandoneon was performed quite nicely and needs to be out front, but it's kind of covering up other instruments. I think it's a matter of a little better mix.
I think I asked, but I'll ask again, what do you want this song to be. A folksy kind of camp fire song or a song to play on the radio, or maybe something else?

I like your percussion ensemble, and the bandoneon is a nice touch.

Great.
My personal impression: the Rhythm, melody and chords, the dry sound, the Bandoneon and the percussion that might be a Cajón creates a "live outside at the fire" impression. The piano is contradicting to that and comes in like a surprise. If you have the Midi notes how about trying to replace it by a Musette Accordion ?

Yes, that's right. Need to find a pan-placement for all instrument though.

Thanks! Well, it has to be a little folky arrangement of course, mixing story-telling with something interesting musically. Radio, perhaps, yet it's not pop. Camp fire, could be

I'm not sure to blame this on the drummer or the producer
I believe it's a little static right now. Muting parts in the mix and enhancing others will change the feel a little. It's not really arranged fully yet.

Yes, ruff mix only yet. I'm not to found of the accompaniment-part of it, so it will be mixed a little low, for feel mostly.

Thanks Michael! Yes, I get your idea, and agree that the piano sounds to modern/studio for that idea. It's midi, but I'm not sure another accordion is what I want.

Here is the piano-track:
https://stash.reaper.fm/30715/Trubaduren_piano.RPP
If you have an idea for better piano-sound,
please give it a go.
Crappy piano, musetta.. whatever

I don't have decent sound that might be suitable
I feel it should be a polyphonic velocity aware instruments that might be part of a comp fire session.
Maybe a Marimba, a Zither or a Glockenspiel ?
(Steel Pan would be the wrong cultural context )

Just a thought Geir, but have you thought about brushes instead of rods?

Oh, the snare is sticks alternating between rim and regular for verse / chorus.
Rods are a small pattern on played on wood

That would be a good idea,
but unless there is some important retracing/rearranging to be made,
it's now more about taking the right steps with what I have.

Good job.

Listen in head phones it sounds great. No need for reverb as I see it.
Very intimate and nothing seems to get lost in the mix.

Yes, I did a few changes:
- Doubled rythm-guitar and panned LR, putting solo-guitar 40R
It balances much better
- Exchanged el.bass with vsti stand up
- Some vol-env, ducking conflicting rhythmical parts
(Old here)

btw Tod: You've used the term "in your face" a few times.
What do you associate with it?
- Much compression/limiting?
- Vocal vol. high?
- Little reverb/fx?
And, is it a positive or negative thing for you?

Much much better for this one, more better panned for me. And this Norway tongue gives something exotic. As you can see, I'm from NORmandie.
It's clearer in general.

As he says also and as you didn't have a response, the "in your face" thing might be what you've obviously done, centering the sides a little by 45/50 (maybe)right and left which is cool for me. Still, to my taste, we're missing something in the front like 15 or 20 degrees R and L. Maybe with a reverb or light delay on the vocal tracks.
Anyway, it's a very good piece and the first for me to listen in Norwegian.
I hope it was clear, this is not my mother tongue.
Carry on, Bye.

I liked it. I could hear easily envision this song being played on the tv show "lillehammer", when Torgeir is up to something. Sounded very warm and professionally produced on my headphones.
As i listened i thought that quiet cymbals ringing out in a cpl spots would sound good. I also thought that the last chorus would sound great with a group of people singing along with you, such as in a campfire song as prev mentioned in the thread.
