Reaper?
I just don't see what people see in reaper that they rate it so very highly.
I find Ableton way easier to use than reaper.

duh? ableton is made for people who want things to be easy.
not everyone likes being told how to work. and reaper doesn't. anything you can do in ableton, i can do faster in reaper.

You and me both. I've already uninstalled Reaper, deleted all of the years of work I have done, and have begun learning to run a productive and streamlined diverse audio business with Abelton....THANKS csa, your concise and convincingly descriptive argument really gave the choice validity and conviction! I am saved!!
(Nice first post....heh )

I'm another Ableton user but I disagree. Ableton and Reaper are two different beasts.
Reaper isn't Ableton Live but it's a very powerful piece of software and it's pricing is way to low for what it can do. A full featured DAW that you can customize that warps, audio quantizes, bridges both 32/64 bit plug ins, Rewire hosts, a track can be anything (audio/midi), Reapers stock plug ins are very good, it's constantly updated, it's got a small footprint, it's stable as hell, etc.
The features list is too long but you get a DAW that keeps up with Cubase or ProTools at a fraction of their price or Abletons for that matter. That's why people rate Reaper so highly. It's got a learning curve but so does Live. Many users don't click with Live either. Different strokes for different folks.

You're right, Ableton is better, now go hang on their forums and perhaps gearslutz. Nothing to see here
edit - just joking around, most users here have pretty thick skins. Of course you are welcome on these forums - everyone is welcome, doesn't matter what daw you use or your philosophy. That's just one of the things that make Reaper different - the user community is very friendly, helpful, and willing to help with questions regarding any daw, hardware/software platform, audio engineering, etc.
So, welcome to the forums - and the secret is, you don't know you're a part of the Reaper hive mind until it's too late to get out ;-)

Everybody sing !
Was I dreaming when I read this
forgive me, but you ve gone astray
when I woke up this morning
coulda sworn it was judgement day
the sky was all purple
there were people running everywhere
tryinī to run from the destruction
You know I didnīt even care
Cuz they say two thousand Zero Zero party over,
Oops out of time
So tonight I m gonna party
like itīs 1999
Lemme tell ya somthing
if didnīt come to party
grim REAPER might knock on your door !
I got a lion in my pocket and baby he is ready to roar
Everybody! two ...
23rd of January 2015, really ??? was this just a dream ?? haha
Why is there an Ableton Icon on my pcīs screen ?

It's so stupid, these idiots never even come back to their own threads to reap what they sow and we all look like a bunch of dipshits. We're such suckers.

Maybe I'm dumb then..Cause I can work most DAW's without trouble.. but Ableton really confused me. that was years ago maybe it is better. But I thought it was just weird and not thought out as a normal engineer would work.. But I found Reaper cooler then most DAW's and more fun.

Session view was a mindfuck if you didn't know what it was for. If you had no expectations of how a DAW should work, it was really easy to get up and running due to the built in help in the interface. In sonar I spent a whole day just trying to make sound come out and couldn't do it.

Ok maybe that was it.. I was on my TDM Pro Tools rig for at least 6 to 8 yrs by the time I tried Ableton. Maybe that's why I didn't understand all the blocks and can't even remember what it looked like.. I see the usefulness in it to be used live for some..and the loop based stuff people are doing. But not how I work.

Yea, if I try to do any editing in Ableton I get a panic attack. Even the default Reaper setup is hard for me now...Don't know a single default shortcut. Well, spacebar.

Funny thing about session view in Live is that it's confusing because it looks like plugin slots. In other software with similar functionality, they tend to make those buttons square, like AKAI MPC pads, and suddenly everyone gets what they do right away.
Such is the power of subliminal suggestions I guess.

Thanks to the OPs enlightning observation, I have abandoned REAPER. But how am I to ween myself off of this forum? especially with users like CSA that provide these moments of epiphany.

I love Ableton. So easy. Just rip a bunch of people's clips from anywhere, throw together, hit play. Wha La! Original Song is done. Now You gonna be a Big Stah.

What is truly sad is that so many these days honestly believe that playing the same tired I-V-vi-IV chord progression and singing the same melody over the top but with different words constitutes as "writing a new song."
Drives me nuts to hear a "new song" someone wants to show me, and it is 90+% identical to <insert random semi-popular song here.>

Lol. True. I think people do it here so often because it's so damn easy.
Start a thread about how something is easier or whatever and stand back and watch the show.

What's worse is that sometimes it IS the identical song, chopped up, skewed, glitched and repackage as the dude's own new tune. Ableton is boss for doing it up!

Well come on now... Honing your craft, putting in the hours, working on your chops, fine tuning a melody, the lyrics, the arrangement, well - that's like a lot of hard work! Yukkers!
And it takes sooo long. Can't I just be like, instantly talented? I mean, why 'cook' (whaaaaat?) when there's "Stove Top Creativity"?

Reaper allows me to be myself and the reaper forum allows me to learn the almost infinite powers of Reaper at my own speed.
I have noticed the Reaper community develop over the years and let's face it it is a most wondrous thing, I don't know of another quite like it.

I think it's because people now a days are lazy and don't want to take the time to learn, read, and are impatient. We live in a "instant socienty" whee they want everything "Now"
And... if you can do it in a few "shakes of a lambs tail" then I'll take something that doesn't require me to think and learn.
I've been using Reaper now sine SX 3 and to me, it's the most stable daw, more CPU friendly, and I can customize it how ever I want!
Also, White Ties Dark Side Imperial Theme has ruined me where every other AW just looks so "Cartoonish"
