Default Insert from template deletes MIDI items (FIXED)

Hi

So I have my sampler (samplelord)on one track, named "slord", with midi items.
I create a new track with one other samplelord instance, using a track template (wich includes midi items), and bamdam, my first (existing) slord items are empty.
Happened with other tracks and instruments, so i guess theres a problem with templates including midi items...

Just tried it here (not with SampleLord) - all seems OK, no MIDI clips were deleted (or harmed in the making of this test ).

(v4.33)

p.s. It never happened prior to 4.51 (or maybe 4.5, but using 4.51 now)

Looks like a new Bug then, if someone can confirm it.

Same problem under 4.52 as well.

Insert a new track and add a midi item to it.
Save as track template with "Include track items in template" ticked.
Add some notes to the first track midi item.
Insert new track from saved track template.
Midi item in first track is now empty.
There is also a strange new black and white icon added at the front of the midi track names on both tracks.

Weirdly, if you click on the icon next to the midi tack name, it dissappears and you then add some midi data to track 2, then add another track from the track template and the midi data in track 2 is unaffected. However the black and white icon reappears on tracks 1 and 3. Add some midi data to track 3 and it is duplicated onto track 1 as well as the icons changing colour from black and white, to green and white.

So it seems like adding a track with a midi item via a track template is linking each added tracks midi items.

Confirmed in Reaper v4.52.
Also v4.402 seems to have the same bug.

Inserting a track template containing MIDI items will pool the template's items with every item that have same "item ID". All edits inside existing items with same "IDs" will be erased. The items' content will become the same as in the template. This is very bad and dangerous behavior. (I don't know what is the correct term for the "item ID". It just seems that there is some kind of internal ID given to items.)
Glueing an item or copying an item will change the item ID and thus prevent this template pooling bug.
Editing or adding item content (MIDI events), trimming item edges, or moving items does not change the item ID.

Fixing for the next build, thanks for the report.

This bug isn't quite as bad as it sounds, though. Existing items will only get messed up if they were the items used to create the track template in the first place. In other words, the bug should only appear if you create a track template, then insert that template back into the same project.

Regardless, fixing.
