Default How to fade a single midi note?

Apparently fading only works for midi tracks that have multiple notes. If it's just one long ambient sounding synth note, then the usual way of fading won't work. (expanding until you see that little "thingy" on the edge of the track's box or going to item properties).

So then what?

you have to fade it in the synth or sampler (volume envelope). or "apply fx" and then fade the rendered audio-item ...

I was worried I'd have to render to audio but I guess stem rendering's not so bad really. Thanks.

It's really easy to route channel specific midi between tracks in Reaper so why not start a new track and put just that one note in a midi part on that track. Then you can add the isolated fade. Use folder tracks to condense the extra track so it's not using screen real-estate when not needed. I use this technique in midi editors when a particular quantize setting doesn't work for just one part of the track.
