Default Jamstix question

I have a kick and snare pattern in mind for a part. I'm having trouble figuring out how to enter that in and let jamstix compose the cymbals and fills for me. Anyone have any pointers? I just bought and installed jamstix and am still figuring it out and have watched every tutorial video I can find.

Thanks!

One or two of the styles have program-each-note grids for the kick and snare, but I forget which styles they are.

Once you've found them, you can either use those styles or use "extract element" feature to grab those grids and bring them into whatever style you're using. If you do this, you'll also want to disable the original kick and snare elements that your current style has.

Alternatively, you can simply disable the kick and snare elements in your style and program all the kicks and snares yourself in Jamstix's main grid. Any notes that you put in manually are "locked", so the drum brain shouldn't fiddle with them.

And then there is this:

Quote:
If you would like to use a single MIDI pattern that you have saved on your hard-drive from
another product, you can use these simple steps to create a custom song from that one single
pattern in seconds, complete with fills, proper part characters and so forth:

* load ‘Import’ style
* load your MIDI pattern (or JS1/2/3 groove file) of choice
* use’ Save Style Preset’ in the brain menu and give it a brief descriptive name
* click ‘Wizard’, select ‘Import’ as the style and you will see your saved preset in
the list to the right of the selected style
* select all other options as desired and click ‘Create Song’

Thanks you for your replies. I have been having a great time experimenting so far and you have been helpful!

I wonder if I should create a 1 or so measure midi file in reaper and then import that as a style so I can have the kick snare hat and cymbals how I want and then see what jamstix drummers do with it?

You can manually program a kick / snare pattern in jamstix itself and save it as a style.
Then it does the hats / cymbals and fills for you ...

Took me a while to realize that. Not the most user freindly or intuitive software in the world.

You could try mdrummer, much faster for zero to hero...
