Default System Disk or Clean OS Install on New SSD?

Hey guys,

I hope to install a new SSD in my recording laptop tomorrow night (Dell XPS L702X, 6gb ram, Win 7 x64), and was wondering if I should install from the original system disk? Or, do a clean install and download the latest drivers myself? I'm thinking maybe with a clean install I'd get rid of a lot of bloatware running in the background. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Kyle

If you have your current system all tidy and set up where you want it to be, then clone it over to the new drive and do zero setup work. (Use an app like Carbon Copy Cloner. I only name this one because I'm familiar with it and use it. There are others too.)

If it's time to rebuild your system... then it's time to rebuild your system.

If you had everything including older stored projects and /or media collections on a large drive and it will not fit on the SSD, do this:
Set up the SSD with OS/apps/project workspace* and then use the HDD for data (archived projects, media, large sample libraries, etc). The app I mentioned (CCC) will let you unselect any folders you don't want to be cloned.

*'Project workspace' is the remaining space on the drive after OS/apps. Use this for your "highest performance" project audio workspace.

CCC is for Mac only...OP is running windows 7...
R-Drive Image will do what you need.... But if I was you
I'd probably go with a fresh install and get all the latest
drivers and updates then do an image of that and have a nice
fresh setup if something should go wrong in the future....

I ended up doing a fresh install using the system disk Dell sent me. This SSD has dramatically changed my laptop. Projects load in a small fraction of the time they used to. Especially Nebula instances. I even have my current project writing to the SSD and I back it up to HDD. Thanks for the help!
