Default Memory Question....

I'm building a new mITX i7 6700k system and was wondering if I should go with 16GB or 32GB of DDR4?

I can get the Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C16 for around $70?

Or go with Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C16 for around $200?

Pretty big jump in price so if its totally unnecessary to go with 32gb I might as well save some money. I'm using a netbook now with windows 10 64bit with 4GB and hitting a wall with it and the CPU.

Guess I will just go with 16GB since no one has any input.

16 GB should be fine if you don't have very high memory needs for (sample based) virtual instruments.

Default General computer rule of thumb........

The more RAM the better.

I run...

Exdrummer 2 (sometimes 2 instances)
TSE x50 v2 (for guitar tone)
Amplitube 4 (for bass tone)

Compression and EQ's on multiple tracks and other plugins but I believe those are more CPU intensive. Far as I know Ezdrummer is the only plugin using samples. Was going to buy the RAM today but not sure if I should spend the extra 100 bucks for 32GB if I don't really need too.

I don't really see how you'd suffer with 16GB to be honest. The only thing I can say about 32GB is that if you needed in the future (for whatever reason), probably better to do it now but still you shouldn't need 32GB typically unless you are using some massively large sample library that needs to be loaded into memory.

Which mobo? Theres a good chance you can dl the manual before you even order it. Id check out what it has to say about ram.

Also, id personally rather buy a set of 4, than a set of 2 now, 2 later.

I downloaded the manual and the QVL here is my parts list so far....

ASUS Z170I PRO GAMING (only 2 dimm slots up to 32GB total)
Intel Core I7-6700K
Corsair Hydro Series H60
Samsung 850 PRO 256GB
WD Black 1TB Performance
EVGA SuperNOVA 550 GS 80+ GOLD
EVGA GeForce GT 710 2GB
Corsair Obsidian 250D

Need to get RAM and Windows 10 pro. Was going to get at least 2666MHz but maybe 3200MHz. Not sure if I'm going to overclock yet I will see if I'll need too. So I wanted to get DDR4 that was fast enough if I want to overclock in the future.

Here is the QVL list...

The stuff your running seems pretty minimal.

16GB seems plenty.

Still, If I could have 32GB, I would.

Think I'll go with 16GB and save a hundred bucks. If I ever hit a wall later on I can upgrade and sell my 16GB. I have been reading that people have issues with DDR4 3000mhz and up running at that speed with the CPU memory controller. I don't know if going over 2666mhz will even be necessary.

Think I might go with this set and its on the QVL for this mobo.

Thanks for the help!

Yeah that's what I would do. I'll go with 2x8GB then if 16GB is not enough pick up 2x16GB if I ever hit a wall with the RAM but I really doubt I will. Unless I find some new plugin down the road that uses a ton of RAM.
