Default Which DAW controller for Reaper?

Which DAW controler can I use with Reaper AND Pro Tools? Are there any that are compatible for both?

For what I do, the faderport is just dandy. Can't say I ever really needed multiple faders.

It works fine with Pro Tools. I go back and forth all the time.

Unfortunately, it uses HUI instead of being directly supported so you have to bank in groups of 8 which is a PITA.

But otherwise, it works great in both.

AVID's Artist series (or generally Eucon devices) should work with Geoff's plugin for Reaper..
http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=122509

Or a MCU with Klinke's and Geoff's plugins

With MCU however, I'm not 100% sure, if there isn't necessary to switch between its different modes. It's quite a while, when I tried MCU with PT HD 8 and frankly I can't recall exact settings for PT.

In general, many of the units supporting Mackie Control protocol also support the HUI protocol, which is what Protools supports.

MCU, or Mackie Control Universal is a good unit. It supports both MCU, HUI and Logic Control protocols. You switch by holding channel 1&2 select buttons when you boot up the unit. (Michal,I only remember the switching procedure because I mixed a series on Protools last year )

It's pricey but has solid support on both systems, especially via Klinkes control surface plugin, which really should be adapted and developed by Cockos.

X-Touch by Behringer
MCU and HUI protocols. You're fine with this too, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper and more modern than the MCU.

The 1-fader unit by Presons, Faderport is fine too. Good fader. Don't remember how to switch it to HUI. Inexpensive.

Then there is the FREE Ipad app Pro Tools Control, which is actually a EuCon control app. Thus Reaper supports it just fine with Geoffs EuCon plugin. Works great as a companion to a fader unit.

Is there any DAW controller I can just plug in without altering settings? in Reaper and P Tools

and does the Presonus faderport come in a different version with more faders?

Many thanks all.

No. They all have to talk to each other, which requires an agreed protocol.
On any platform and any DAW.

Hi Kero,

Just read this thread so I thought I would respond to it...
From what I know Reapers uses a few protocols like Mackie, Hui.

Go to Reaper Preferences select Control Surfaces on the left and select the Add button, you will get a list of available protocols.

Check this one to see how they have setup an Akai midi/daw controlling keyboard. http://www.akaipro.com/kb/article/1465#MIDI

In the Akai Article they have setup all settings by hand. But Reaper also has automap settings. If you want to use that on lets say a Mackie protocol based controller, just set the Control Surface in that Mode.

You can checkout this article to see some examples of Controllers: http://getinstrumental.com/best-daw-controllers

To Answer your question: Yes, you have the ability to set without altering settings. But usually you will want to change some settings.

I hear the Novation controllers have deep integration nowadays.

Hope this helps
