Default Arturia MiniLab

Hello i plan to buy a Arturia MiniLab...

- can i use the Encoders in relative Mode with Reaper?
- can i config the pads to send a chord to a VSTi? (not the arturia Software) maybe with a kind of translation Plugin?

is there somewhre a configuration guide tu study .... when i google reaper and mini lab i only find some (old) posts with non working encoders...

I have a Minilab and have had no problems using it with Reaper, but I've seen a couple of threads where others have described less happy experiences.

To answer your questions:

Yes, the knobs (what you're referring to as encoders, I assume) can be configured in relative mode for use with non-Arturia software.

You can configure each of the pads to send MIDI note, Patch Change, MMC, or CC MSB/LSB in assorted ways. I don't know of a specific plugin which would translate any or all of those to a chord, but I'd be surprised if one didn't exist.

The Minilab manual is available for download from Arturia:

thanks for the reply - okay - lets say knobs ...

i already checked the manual of the minilab and also downloaded the software. in the software i can set the Knobs to 3 Types of relative. i can also set the acceleration to off / slow / fast. is this working with reaper? (i want to controll feedback of delays, filters and send levels without any hoping when i touch the knob the first time)

the maping of the Keys shud work with this tool: midiTriggerList from http://www.thepiz.org/plugins/?p=pizmidi
... maybe the is somthing simpler out there?
(i want to map 4 Notes to 4 chords)

To put my information in perspective, I have no experience with Relative mode. I don't use the MIDI controller knobs much and when I do I'm usually just recording the results so I have them set to Absolute mode, which works well for my purposes.

Anyway, I loaded a new profile into the Minilab and set it to Relative 1 mode which seems to correspond to Reaper's Relative 2, but allowing for that this seems to work as expected - I turn the knob and the VST control I have it mapped to turns, I stop turning it stops, I turn again and it continues turning from the value it last stopped at.

I also tried swapping between Fast and Medium accelerations and there's a significant difference, both allowed fine control at slow knob speeds with higher speeds providing a much coarser/greater range when set to Fast.

I'm a fan of the piz MIDI tools (I thought them well worth a donation), and midiTriggerList looks perfect for your described requirements.

many, many thanks for the test - this sounds great!

I dont use the piz tools so far .... just found it while iam googleing arround for this key to chord "problem". i will start a new thread in the general forum to ask - maybe there is somthing simpler with a map File or a dropdownmenue. but i keep the miditrigger plugin - i have the feeling this will come handy one day ...

Well, you might want to hunt up those other threads where people didn't seem able to use their Minilabs at all, just in case your set-up matches theirs.

Piz may have another solution to your note/chord requirements:

Good Luck

so ... i played a bit with the mini lab ....

- the konbs in relative mode are cool for controlling my FXs:
https://soundcloud.com/matze-dub/vst...alla-freq-echo
(verry cool is i can controll the loop and reverse button of the dubstation with pads... )

- the pads are cool for triggering one shot samples (like drums perc and so ...) but useless for playining some chords (i tested some plugings to translate the notes to chords). iam now bounceing the chords of the projects and play it as one shots - that works fine for me.

I have the Minilab and I've been enjoying the Analog Lab software.

I wonder if anyone has used the MIDI keyboard to live input MIDI drum hits via RSK5?

Because I'd like to try it and I'm a complete MIDI newb. Don't mean to hijack, I just thought I'd ask here since the conversation centered on the Minilab.

ah okay
thats easy. check in your "midi controll Center" from Arturia what you have configured in your mini lab.

in my case that is C1 on the first button, that is midi note 28. Load a Rs5k, load a sample in it and adjust it to 24 to 24. when your next pad is c#1 that is 25. so just load the next rs5k and a sample and adjust it to 25.

if you need infos bout config your track listen to the minilab - it works like all other midi devices in reaper. check this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tI3rwTpyvZs

I think I understand. I'm using Tod's Drums and Big Mono, so I'll have to configure all the Minilab pads to those samples?
