Each theme is driven by its rtconfig.txt file and the image files included.

Combining elements from two themes can be a lot of work. When I did it, I:
  • copied "Theme A", renamed it ot a .zip file, extracted it all
  • renamed the ReaperTheme file
  • moved it and its images folder up into the ColorThemes folder,
  • edited its rtconfig.txt file,
  • replaced some of it with the equivalent elements from "Theme B",
  • edited those imported elements to get the positioning and sizes right,
  • it needed quite a lot of heuristics ("trial and error").
From the WALTER Themer's Guide:
Quote:
A WALTER Warning for ‘Mix&Match’ themers
If you have been making mix&match themes, using elements from other themes, that’s great . . .some of the best themes have been made that way .And have you been giving credit to the original theme creators? You have? Excellent! Please carry on, but be aware that you may now need to be selective about where you source your images; if a theme has extensive WALTER and its images set up to match, things may well look really, really bad if you try to use those images in a theme without the appropriate WALTER for the element, or no WALTER at all.

Default How did it turn out?

DarkStar,

How did your end theme come out?

I have no experience w Walter, but would like to swap a mixer from one custom theme into the Default 3 theme.

I may try what you did. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Tim

Fine, I was adding Layouts into 4 different themes so that I can swtich between the themes and still have the same Layouts available.

I learned a lot about WALTER as I did it and worked out a way to deal with those (non-intuitive, to me) edge attachments.

Suggestions?
-- unpack the source and destination themes,
-- add the desired Mixer layout as a new Layout with a different name and a folder name, keep the existing ones,
-- the new layout will use the destination theme's images, so fix all the definitions of the image size dimensions first
-- then change the positions of the images, as needed.

Good luck

If you unpack a theme you will get a folder and a theme file which you can open with notepad. This theme file contains all the options chosen in preference ie. Arrange, midi settings etc you can cut and paste from one theme to another.

Mcp and tcp layouts can be tricky as often the layout is not independent of the themes default panel. If it doesn't start with clear tcp or clear Mcp you'll have a lot of work on your hands.

Good luck :-)
