Default Reducing the Volume on a Portion of MIDI Drum Track

I am using ToonTrack's EZDrummer and I have a midi file that I need to reduce the volume/velocity on globally during a small section of the song. I know how to adjust the volume/velocity on the individual hits (i.e., snare, kick, etc.) but that would be a time consuming effort when I really just want to bring the overall volume down. I could move the midi for that section to a new track but I don't want to introduce a new track that I would have to use a 2nd VST instance of EZDrummer. If anyone can make a recommendation, it would be much appreciated.

With EZDrummer, changing velocity does more than change the volume of the sound you hear. It actually changes the sound you hear by playing back different samples so that it (supposedly) actually sounds like the drummer is playing more softly. First decide if that's what you want, or if just turning down the volume is really more appropriate.

If you do want to change the MIDI velocity so the "drummer" actually plays more softly, then you can select all of the notes in that section and change all of their velocities at once. Or you could put on one of the JS plugins that manipulate MIDI velocity and automate that.

If just changing volume works for you, the just automate the post FX volume of the EZD track. That will be like the drummer just kept bashing away and you turned down the fader on that section.

Thanks for the distinction between volume and velocity. I need to change the velocity so the drummer is hitting the drums less intense. How can I change the velocity globally for a MIDI section? I only know how to adjust individually. I can select all but I can't see how you reduce them all while maintaining the respective relationships.

Hello cgtrman and welcome to these forums. You'll find many helpful people here and a lot of useful information.

In the MIDI Editor, select you want to change, right-click one of them, select Note properties, then in the Velocity box enter, for example -20%

If you use the pre-FX volume automation instead, the automation will affect MIDI note velocity .

Also, the item's volume handle and fades do affect note velocity when the item contains MIDI. So another way to lower all velocities on a section is to split that section to a separate item and lower the item volume.

Thx for all the replies. I got it worked out w/o having to use a duplicate track.
