Per-take RAM use for the peak cache, now pooled so projects with lots of audio items will not waste memory. A synthetic test:

Loading of large undo histories can be anywhere from 2-10x faster
Loading of projects with large numbers of MIDI items can be 2-4x faster

Tracks with many (thousands) of MIDI items would result in very poor arrange UI performance

First thing I noticed (apart from it appearing faster thanks!) was that item buttons can quite easily disappear when scrolling or zooming now IF the item start is off the screen and they only come back when you scroll or zoom a bit more around the screen.

Sorry, Only just saw this and was off to bed but, I reloaded the project to do a licecap and couldn't recreate the problem!
It seems it only happened on the first launch of this pre and not the 2nd time. It all locks in fine now and is great!
It really seems that my large kontakt heavy projects are loading quite a bit faster now so thanks for this! big improvement!

Very nice.
But the issue with toolbar_filter_solo.png still isn't fixed here - it doesn't show up!

Does this mean what I hope ? ...
Getting better, but if the MIDI clip has a "Track name" in it, then the track is named using both the embedded track name AND the MIDI file name (and so is the clip). I think that the embedded track name should be used for the track and (perhaps) the file name for the clip. Try the attached.

Great, but the issue remains for :
One MIDI editor per tracck
- Open all MIDI on the same track
- Open all MIDI in the project
One MIDI editor per project
- Open all MIDI on the same track
- Open all MIDI in the project
Reaper displays every time the same item instead to display selected items ...

Ovnis, my guess is that you have either disabled "active MIDI item follows changes in arrange view" or chosen "manual selection mode" in the MIDI track list, and that you are single-clicking the MIDI items in your gif.

No. My setting is good. There is a bug when we open an item with "one left click".

Meaning, you have changed the mouse modifier for media item left click to the action "open items in built-in MIDI editor"? OK, that was useful information

Devs!
did you also tweak the z layering for wrapped plugins not staying on top or the arrange when the arrange is full screen on windows?
I just loaded a wrapped (GUI included) plugin that always needed me to "pin it" for it to stay on top of the arrange and now it seems to behave!
If you did then thanks as it was a big pain (especially for the GRM tools stuff), if not then.. weird!

Haven't checked, but I think it's a change for this:
http://forum.cockos.com/project.php?issueid=175
which is very welcomed here.
Typical example import audio files named Tom 1, Tom 2, etc. on different tracks
would end up auto-track-named Tom, Tom (trailing numbers dropped until now)
Thanks.

I don't recall the video window "pausing" when mouse drag scrolling aroudn the arrange before whilst reaper is playing back the video?
I haven't got time till later to test but now that's happening on at least the project I'm on right now using a video with audio.

Nice. That "Ram Test" midi project that took 60 seconds to load now loads in about 22 seconds here.

Have you compared the RAM use of it vs 4.602?

Yes, it now reads 650mb so ram use seems to have been cut in half. Cool.
Edit: Actually, after letting it settle the Reaper performance monitor shows 618mb and the Win resource monitor shows 577mb, a huge improvement from 1.2 gb.

I'd be happy to sue him on Cockos' behalf. Rumors have it that he has quite deep pockets.

while we're talking about using 1 editor per track, here's an issue using 1 editor per project:
"hide unused/unnamed notes" references other tracks marked visible in the track list. track visibility can't yet be controlled through actions, so "hide unused/unnamed notes" requires a lot of midi track list mousing to be useful.
use case scenario: track per midi channel input. midi items on each track. action to select X channel and open item under edit cursor in midi editor, then automatically hide unused, unnamed notes.

nit re: project load
A nit, but since project load got some attention, i can't resist bumping this:
http://forums.cockos.com/project.php?issueid=4763
Quote from that report:
Quote:
When auto-loading a project on startup, if files are missing there is no way to know which project is being loaded.
When loading the last project automatically on startup, there is no indication anywhere of which project is being loaded.
Besides it being a nice to know what's loading when working with lots of projects at once, this is mainly a problem when the "missing file" dialog pops up. It asks for a file like "guitar.wav" and I have no idea which of the 20 projects' guitar.wav I'm supposed to be worried about because no indication of the project in question is given.
Not even indication of the previous path to the file is given ("c:\reaperprojects\myawesomesong\guitar.wav") -- just the file name is shown ("guitar.wav").
Seems like a trivial fix, and would be very handy.

Since you're dealing with project/envelope states it would be nice to get some comment on this
http://forum.cockos.com/project.php?issueid=4416
It seems to me that this happens due to limited number of decimals in envelope chunks.
edit:
one more thing - when changing ARM token in envelope chunk, envelope record arm button doesn't get updated.

and whilst your there, looking at project loading bugs... lol
Not had it for a while but when running in full screen mode on windows (8.1) I often have pop up messages like reaper's own "cannot find a file" or kontakt's missing file window hidden behind the arrange page and it makes it look like it's crashed
Seems like "full screen" also sets reaper to "always on top". Is there a way around that as this would probably solve the problem?
This might have been fixed now but no worries if you don't get around to it as I'm super happy with the new improvements in this round of pres anyway!

The CC lanes seem to be quite demanding on graphical resources. If you try to do CC drawing/editing in various items at the same time - all of them with with a good amount of events -, the slowdown can be anything from noticeable to dramatic. There is a clear recipe in the link above to reproduce it. Is it just like that and we will always live with it, or is there any possible improvement?
Apart from that, I´m delighted -and I´m not the only one for sure - with all the improvements the midi editor is receiving.
Thank you for all, as usual!

Still my biggest gripe with the MIDI editor.
http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.p...ighlight=ruler
I can't imagine I'm the only guy working with MIDI that would prefer to only see measure:beat in the ruler instead of all the decimals in between. Useless clutter, IMO. Can we have the option to change it?

+1 on that, but I would add that it would be nice to be able to clean up the arrange window numbering as well. That is, no numbers above the 2.1.50 or 2.1.75 etc. Or at least have it the same as the midi editor and show ticks.

Exactly. I'm really scatterbrained, so having the decimal stuff really messes with my brain when programming any kind of software instrument.
