A lot of wonderful things, but... the volume envelope is always linear ?????
Can we have any hope to be able to have a fully editable volume curve in 4.0 ?

THANKS !

Why is there a red star displayed when pressing play/stop in the Media Explorer and the MIDI editor and when pressing the Phase button in the I/O window?

Floating Toolbar
I like the idea behind docking the floating toolbar over main toolbar but if you have too many buttons you can't see them all and there's no way to scroll, yet. I can disable "Don't scale toolbar buttons below 1:1" but with too many buttons this isn't good. I can also make the TCP wider though I'd prefer to avoid that to save screen space.
I really think we should have an option somewhere to attach it to the main screen, right below menus where we can see them all.

I'd rather see the toolbar dockable with the main dock or better yet a 2nd dock

That's also a nice idea, put it in the docker like we can do it with the Transport bar would be also welcome. I just want to keep it in a place (no matter where, to be honest), where I can see all buttons, always.

I'd like if you could dock it where it docks now but still have it show 2 rows like the main toolbar does in the same space. Currently it can't because of the tabs, but if there was a way to get it going that would be slick. Could then have a bunch of tabbable toolbars there permanently, just move the main toolbar to be a tabbable option in the floating toolbar.

Also, schwa, tab to transient is kicking ass now, thanks a ton for that
Only thing I've noticed is that it is zoom dependent which is a bit of a bitch. Zoom in to a reasonable level for editing and it starts catching tons of false transients even at 0% sensitivity, but zoom out and it catches them all perfectly. I wonder is there a way to implement something like a "minimum slice length" while tabbing? And use the "left to right" behavior from dynamic split maybe? Just a thought!

Small niggle request... in the Media Explorer, the area that shows the wav peaks and the time selection in there... I'd love to see theme colors for both those....
colors that work as desired in the tcp don't quite work there... for example, my pref of time selection color in tcp is an alpha reduced white... works great there.
but in the ME, the wav display background is already white, so dragging a white time selection over that is not very good.
For now, I've just changed my time selection color, but if I could set a color for the ME wav display background color I'd like it better.... thanks if it's easy

Small request re: the sidechaining. It would be nice to be able to set it so that the drag and drop didn't necessarily go to 3-4, but to channels of the user's choice (in the preferences or something). I use certain multichannel plugins that can make things difficult, so being able to send sidechain signals through 17-18 would be great for me.

Maybe you already know this but shift+drag works for scrolling when you've already zoomed it in.

MIDI track controls
Quote:
+ Track and send faders can be linked to MIDI volume/pan

I have been playing with this, and I assume this works for MIDI hardware, but it doesn't seems to work for VSTi. It does work if you send the MIDI from the linked track to another track containing the VSTi. From this I conclude that the volume/pan MIDI data is added post-FX. However, wouldn't it be better to insert it pre-FX? That way MIDI volume/plan will work for VSTi, and of course you can apply FX to it (e.g. remap CC#7 to another CC).

+ Track and send faders can be linked to MIDI volume/pan
How do you people get that to work? I get the MIDI readout and all, but no MIDI messages seem to be sent. At least nothing is registered in a MIDI logger on that track and no instrument I tried reacted on neither pan nor volume fader movements.
I tried sending to another track with the instrument/logger, but nada.
Which step am I missing?

I think you need to record arm the sending track, see attached project file.

Aaaah! thanks, that's it. Working now. Leaves the question why is it so? That would have been the last thing I expected. I thought we could now use the track faders to mix a multichannel MIDI instrument. I hope that restriction will fall in a later version.
EDIT: It seems to only work in combination with a send to another track, but not with a logger/instrument on the same track? Is that right? Makes some sense, as the fader will still do audio as well, but it's not really clear for the user what is when (not) happening and why.
Add to whishlist:
- The readout should also tell me about which MIDI channel is controlled.
- the zero db line shouldn't represent value 127 but 100. 127 would be nicer at the very top of the fader.
niggle (might be user error, or even intended, but is irritating):
- Set "Link track volume/pan.." to a specific channel (eg 2)
- set the send to MIDI: All => All
=> All channels will be controlled, instead of the specified one

the new "Track Manager" is great!!
its main lack is the fact that you can not delete tracks from within it!

All nice and well, but ...
... despite of the admittedly great improvements like WALTER, take lanes, mouse modifier, ReaSurround to name only a few, there are some minor and major features either screwed up or missing.
minor (as in 'will probably straightened out during alpha/beta phase'):
The V4 theme is a matter of taste (i like it), but there is one thing that i can't accept:
On my 15.4" laptop screen the MCP faders are only about 1 1/2" long because of the loads of buttons above and below them.
This way they are simply unusable and i think this needs to be fixed.
For now i use the V3 theme with it's long faders and long meters.
major (as in 'keeps me from finally upgrading to V4 after the alpha/beta phase'):
- the SOLO disaster:
It's still not possible to solo a track that isn't routed to the master by simply clicking it's solo button.
Think of monitor mixes or a PA master mix (REAPER's master can only be used for controlroom purposes because of the solo signal being routed there).
To prevent the monitor/PA/etc. mixes from being muted if a track is soloed they have to be in 'solo defeat' mode.
In this case they can't be routed to the master (=controlroom), because then they are always present even if some other track is soloed, what defeats the purpose of soloing a signal.
So the master/parent send of the monitor/PA/etc. mixes has to be disabled, but then again they can't be soloed.
There are workarounds for this, but please, that's what the solo button is supposed to do: making a track's signal audible in the controlroom regardless of the routing of the track and without affecting any other tracks/signals/outputs.
- snapping:
It still isn't possible to make cursor/markers/timeselection snap to the beginning/end of an item when moving them with the mouse.

I think if we could lower the speed of the fader movement it wouldn't be that much of a problem.

This is the single most important thing that's missing from the snap/grid settings.
We have items snap to sample rate now. Great!
I'm hoping that we can snap cursor to item's edge, when clicking on the timeline in one of the V4 pre's, please. Great job on everything else. A+

Hey Evil!!!
wasssup! Are referring yourself with the Midi Value Volumes etc... when you choose to show ALL midi Filter in a track? Because if YES then please, true a 0-127 would be much easier instead of seeing 23456????? I mean myself I was like what? But hey you get use to it but hard to say a client , well i'm at 1034 approx
I hope they change this and make it "NORMAL"???
Cheers!!

That would get me wicked pumped!

+ Separate default settings for crossfade shapes and autocrossfade-on-split length
This would be more useful if there was an option as to where the crossfade takes place. Right now it only seems to extend the latter item into the previous; It could extend the the latter item into the previous, the former item into the latter, or anywhere in between. That might be more flexible and useful.
It would be nice it alt-drag could still function on item pairs created in this manner as well.

Would be nice if it would support this "mouse sweep" feature we have on the TCP and MCP (click mute button and drag with the mouse to another track's mute button makes all the tracks muted). So this could be used in the track manager too (sweeping over column to enable/disable stuff on more than one track).

Media Explorer IO Request
I'd like to be able to route the Media Explorer output to any track in the project, not just to ASIO outputs or ReaRoute channels.
Thank you for continued improvements and development on my daily DAW. I enjoyed the article in Tape Op!

quantize to samplerate
this screenshot shows a few things:
* item positioning and edit cursor can be snapped to project samplerate! woo-hoo
* Grid isnt rounded to samplerate - please, could you add it optionally?
* Slip content is still subsample accurate - ( i guess + Item editing: snap slip edits ("contents not edges") to sample rate grid - is related, but how to activate it?)
* Media CUEs are a bit off-positioned, they should be right on samples imo

I agree, as a view thing it would be great to have the grid switch slightly to reflect the sample rate quantizing.
I guess other daws do this too.

yeah, is a bit confusing as is - i need to think for a sec. when seeing this if its really quantized, or not?
just an option, but it would help a lot

so is this the price of sample snapping?
i never use loops as long loops i always copy & paste loops, so am i best with snap to sample rate disabled?

Yep, in-context preview through selected tracks for audio files. For MIDI files it's already working I think ...

For midi I think it does yes but not for audio tracks yet but it would be such an easy way to do it (well from a user point of view)
Just a tick box to audition audio via selected track (and if you have more than one track selected it can maybe just do the top one or last track selected)
