Default Record audio from VSTi

Hey, all. I know how to load a VSTi and record the MIDI, but is there a way to record the audio live, like you would with a guitar plugged into an audio input?

I ask because I'm working on a score for a movie (first time, if you can't tell) and want to use a bunch of different patches, sound fx, etc. and it'd be easier to just record the audio than it would to set up the right patches with the right routing to play at the right time, etc.

Bonus question: Is there a way to disconnect the tempo from an item, in this case the video track? I (obviously) want the play rate to be the same regardless of the tempo we set (and reset). Thanks in advance!

That video is perfect! Thanks for the quick reply, lowerbout!

Soooooo... any tips (or vids) on the bonus question: How do I keep an audio or video item(s) from following the tempo of a track?

Again, the real world example here is that I've imported a video file into a project, and I don't want the playback of that video to speed up or slow down when I change the tempo.

Right click on the item > Item settings > Set item timebase to time.
