I get the idea.. I like things to line up. Before you say it, yes I wish the indent and white line weren't there either. :P
Second option, involving glueing:
Make a time selection around the item (must meet or extend past the item bounds) and glue. It will take on the size of the time selection. I use this a lot to make items the same size as the regions they are in, for example, by double clicking the region which makes a time selection of that size.

Not entirely the same but i often use a great script from me2beats:
"Script: me2beats_Trim sel items edges to nearest grid divisions (increase items length).lua"
Advantage of this Script is that it doesn't do glueing.
I find the glueing solution abit cumbersome cause it creates a new Item, which i don't prefer.
Ok, so this doesnt work with a Time Selection, but works "grid based".
Maybe me2beats could make another version of the script that works with a Time Selection :0)
