Strange render bug (FIXED)
Today I rendered an instrumental mix of a track, so muted all vocals and did a render of the main mix fader.
Now it turns out that some vocal take can still be hear in the rendered file! This vocal is NOT heard when playing back, but its indeed there when I render the very same master fader that I am listening to.
In order to get rid of that vocal I had to solo each other intrument group instead of just muting all the vocals.
Worth looking into I think!

If you post the project file here, no media needed, I could take a look at it and tell you what's going on. I'm 100% sure it's pilot error.
If you can't post the project file I'd advise you to look closely at sends, solo states, hidden tracks, routing in general, etc.

You're welcome to take a look, and I hope it was a pilot error. But why would render and playback of the same track produce different results, thats what is strange.
Anyway the RPP is too large to attach here, so please let me know if you want me to send it somewhere else.

You can put it in a zip file to reduce the size.
Or upload it to a server like Mediafire/Dropbox/Box/Drive and post the link here.

Ok so after some research I found that it was an effect send that caused this.
Vocal track inside a folder have an send to a delay. When the vocal folder is muted it kills all sends from those tracks inside the folder just like it should be.
However, when doing an OFFLINE render of the very same thing, this particular send isnt cut anymore so it ends up in the rendered file.
The does NOT happen when doing either Playback or ONLINE renders.
It happens regardless of plugings or not on the source and destination tracks.
To me this seems like a (probably very rare) render bug.

If you can post a minimal test project that makes it very obvious, and include a copy of your reaper.ini, that'd be great.

Absolutely, here it is.
So for me this exact project generates sound when rendering the Mix och Master fader despite the Folder is being muted in OFFLINE mode. Playback and Online render generates silence as expected.

That is very strange that it is in face sound when I do offline render. What on earth in my setup could cause this?

Tried your ini and project, couldn't reproduce any issue -- can you make a licecap so I can see exactly what you're doing?

Hi, so made a quick licecap now. This should explain what I mean better.
- playback
- online render
- offline render

Yes, and the wierd thing is: When rendering Master PLUS Stems, both files contains NO sound. It only happens now when I only render selected track (stem).
Clearly a bug.

Confirmed, fixing, thanks!
Workaround: enable prefs/rendering/"process all tracks during stem render"
