Trying to visualize 2 Kontakt UI at the same time cause Reaper to crash.
Hi, I'm actually experiencing an issue from 5.18 (I think).
I use a project with many Kontakt istances loaded, if I try to open the FX UI of one istance at a time everything works fine, if I open one istance and I let it open than I open a second istance UI the programs freeze, hangs for a very long time or crash.
It's a very annoying and counterproductive behavior, someone can help me?
Thank you.

Just to check I would reinstall v5.18 (or earlier) and make sure that having 2 Kontakt's open is still OK. That will help the devs locate the problem.
Just download and run the v5.18 installer. You can always run the latest one again to get the latest Reaper version.
Previous Reaper versions are here:

I just loaded three Kontakt-5s and opened all 3 at the same time with no problem. That was with Reaper 5.20/x64.
I didn't have any instruments loaded though so it might be an accumulation of tracks and FX.

No, I've just tried with a blank project, loaded two tracks with two istances, same problem.
Maybe it's an option in the preferences, I don't know!

I noticed that the problem happens the first time I open the istances, if I close and reopen them everything works fine.
EDIT
If I run them as a dedicated process everything works fine, I can't use this mode anyway because it demands more cpu, too much.
It's something cpu related.

Hi DANIELE, what are your computer specs?
Are you using 64bit?
In my first test I loaded the 3 instances of K5 from track templates.
However, I then loaded 3 instances by Right Clicking the TCP and loading from the menu.
No problem with either of them and I did it with Reaper 5.18.

With dedicated process everything works fine but increase loading time when I open a project.
Here my specs:
CPU: I7 3770K @ 4.4 GHz
RAM: 32 Gb
Audio: Steinberg UR22
DAW: Reaper 64Bit v5.201
OS: Windows 8.1 64Bit

Well you certainly shouldn't be having any problems with those specs. So you are using the 64bit Reaper, I assume you're using the 64bit Kontakt as well?
Incidentally, where are you finding the "Dedicated Process", I think I dealt with that a long time ago but I'm not sure where it's at.

Okay, are you using "Sample mode" or "DFD mode" in Kontakt?
Also are you aware of the ability to "Purge" samples in Kontakt?
These are two big factors when it comes to loading Kontakt.
Do you know what your DFD settings are?
Depending on your answers to these questions, you might be able to improve things significantly.

Yes I use that option, I know this! But it's not samples related, I have the problem everytime I open a new project and I'll try to open FX window for two or more istances even if there's no libraries loaded, with an empy kontakt istance.
For the dedicated process mode (and other modes) you have to right click on kontakt in the FX selection window.
Yes, I'm using 64 bit version of Kontakt.
Regarding DFD settings in the Memory Tab, under "Instrument Preload Buffer Size" I keep the buffer size option deselected, every instrument decide how much it have to preload.
With 32 Gb of ram I think it should be fine.
Anyway as I said the problem persist also with empty istances, the first time I open them or If I do this after I opened a new project.
Well, I really don't know how to manage it.

Running Kontakt as separate process leads to the same problem.
Apparently only running it as a dedicated process bypass the issue.
Any ideas?

That's what I thought and that's where I looked for it yesterday to see what my settings are. For some reason the option doesn't appear for me.

Yeah I only mentioned the purge and the DFD because you were saying how slow things loaded, and loading all the samples into RAM will take longer.

I see that in your gif and I don't know what the problem could be.
However, I do have problems too, now and then, where Reaper will get really slow and unstable when I have Kontakt open. When that happens, I'll do an immediate save, close Reaper, and reboot. When I come back in, it's stable again.
But I don't have any problems opening 2, or even 3 instances Kontakt.
Wish I could offer more, but I'm perplexed too.

Well, thank you anyway for your help. I really appreciate it!!
I hope someone (maybe a dev) could help me!
I don't remember exactly when the problem started, but I remember that I have not always had it.
Maybe I've to many libraries, I don't know but I can't find the cause of the problem.
At the moment I created a macro that closes all open instances before opening the selected one to bypass it (I really love this aspect of Reaper) but the problem remains.
I have always had problems of instability and random crashes too with kontakt but this one is particularly annoying.
I wish devs would concentrate more on kontakt compatibility as it's a very common VST.

Are you using multi nki instruments in each instance?
By the way I checked out your music and I must say, it's well done. It sounds like you have some nice libraries.

No I'm using 1 istance for instrument, it use CPU much better than using few istances with multi instruments.
1 istance -> 1 instrument => 256 samples for ASIO
1 istance -> multi instruments => 512 - 768 samples for ASIO
So the first one it's much better, very much!!
Thanks for your compliments, the libraries are good but the composer is better (I'm joking of course).
