Default Where to put compressor?

Hi,

I have folder track with four children track. Two of them are guitars (left and right) and next two tracks are delay nad reverb which receive signal from guitar left and right (technique that guitar on left have reverb and delay on right, the same but oposite with right guitar).

My question is where to put compressor? I think, that if i put compressor on folder (parent) track which has those fout tracks, it will compress delay and reverb. I need to compress just two guitar before they go to to delay and reverb.

How to do this?

I would just put a compressor on each guitar (clean) track. Another option would be to have a folder with the clean guitars in a folder inside the other folder.

So, I've put compressor in track fx chain (for each left and right guitar) after amp simulator (TH3). Actually in that situation I could put compressor after speaker cabinet i TH3, but I prefer teletronix white 2A from t-racks.

If said reverb/delay are identical for the two guitars, you can do this even more easily:

Folder: Guitar Bus
>> Delay/Verb, width -100%
>> Folder: Guitars, compressor, sent to delay/verb
>>>> Guitar 1, panned left
>>>> Guitar 2, panned right

Thanks, but could you explain this little further. Do you mean:

* Guitar Bus has in fx chan delay and verb panned horizontal with width -100%
* Next folder within Guitar Bus has compressor which is send to delay and verb on Guitar Bus.
* Next folder within has guitars panned left and right.

Yes?

It really depends what you're after. Putting a stereo compressor at the end of the folder will help "glue" the guitars together, which may or may not be what you want. On each track it will keep each guitar within a certain dynamic range but not make them sound quite as unified or as a singular sound, which may be what you want or maybe not. Generally compressors will go before verb but it can be interesting to do it after as well. You can bring up the ambience with the squash in a certain way that is different from bringing up the verb level.

Compressors for the same instruments probably go in one place 50% of the time, later 25% and instead at their end maybe 25% of the time too. Depends what you're going for and what works.

Make sure you understand the profound implications of putting a compressor AFTER a delay! Can be used for a cool effect, just make sure that's what you want, otherwise its the infinitely loud echo chamber effect
