Default My very first Reaper piece.

Hi everyone. This is my first piece using Reaper. It's classical piano, in the soundtarck genre. It's the story of a sea captain.

For this music, I entirely used the MIDI editor, because I'm not a pianist, though I have some piano notions.

I used Bardstown's Bosendorfer piano with some convolution reverb.

Many thanks to all the kind people answering my questions in the newbieland forum.

Please tell me what you think!

That this was done in a MIDI editor is extremely impressive. I was skeptical to listen at first, but quite frankly, your mouse clicks are capable of more complexity than my fingers! Very impressive...I can't even begin to imagine the patience it would take to construct a piece like this in a MIDI editor - it's like the audio form of pointillism!

For all those who say that Reaper's MIDI editing capabilities are lacking, I refer them to this...

What have you used for piano sound? Sounds a bit twangy.

Other than that, very nice, except the lack of sustain pedalling.

Wow! Great work! (Especially for the MIDI Editor!)

The Bardstown website looks like they deal in samples. Care to share which sampler you used to trigger them?

I don't know how to do midi stuff (unless ezdrummer counts) but this genuinely impressed me. The lack of absolute perfection in a couple of places probably helped.

Seems like this would take longer than learning how to play the piano!!!

Nice job.

Hi, thanks for the comment!

I used http://www.bardstownaudio.com/insite/frames/CD-Bos.html for the piano sound. It does sound a bit twangy, which bothered me at first, but the other piano I had was Art Vista's, which is too mellow and muffled -- it doesn't work for dramatic effects.
But I did use the sustain pedal: you can especially hear it in the last notes of the music, plus there and parts here and there, when the "boat sinks". But I see where I can use it a little more to emphasize a passage.

Hi d.bop, Thanks.

I use Kontakt 3. I like it because it works with Reaper x64.

Thanks for the info. Please read your private message, we could arrange something out maybe!
