A tip for the nightworkers...
...I mean a tip for those using computers at night, like I sometimes do.
https://justgetflux.com/
Ran about this in another forum.
Of course I can't verify what they write but it seems plausible to me (I mean it's a free app, what reason should they have to claim some crap...)
I have it now running for about a week or so, and although it took a bit getting used to at first I think I'll stick with it.
Doesn't make sense for "color-critical" work of course (e.g. Photoshop stuff), but it's ok for doing Reaper work or web browsing at night, actually I find it even pleasant to the eyes in a way the more I get used to it (have it running at 2700k at night currently).

I think it is pretty well documented by now that (expecially) the blue light from screens disrupts your sleep hormone system. On my Android tablet, which I read books on in bed, I have installed a blue light filter and (placebo or not) I do think I sleep better since I've started doing that.
EDIT: Yeah, the f.lux guys link to one study https://justgetflux.com/news/2014/12/22/study.html

Have been using this for a while, also on (jailbroken) iOS devices. Pretty nice.
It's great for doing stuff before going to sleep, but of course, sometimes you actually *want* to stay awake when you're working during the night.
Another cheap trick on OS X that may (or may not) result in better visibility at night time: press CTRL+ALT+CMD+8 to invert colors. Also hilarious to do this with your friends who don't know about this yet, and then watch them panic about what causes it.

Oh sorry, indeed, it's plain 8. Have fun watching your bosses go nuts. Perhaps have a camera running.

You should give it a shot, it really does make a big difference. you can disable it per app (Premiere, photoshop, lightroom etc.) it will fade to tinted when you switch to other apps.

I thought that's planned but not implemented yet currently ?
From the f.lux FAQ

In the future we plan to allow automatic disabling of f.lux when you launch certain programs.

So how you're doing this or are you talking about another similar app ?

Yes, I would definitely give it a try. I've been using it for years. It fades gradually so you don't really notice it. The moment of clarity is when you've been using the pc all evening and you disable it - your eyes will suddenly be exposed to the glaring whites and it will become clear how much this tires your eyes. That was my experience anyway.

After seeing bright light, your eyes also need about 45 minutes to 'reset' before you can see well in the dark. Especially useful if your spouse is worth looking at in the bedroom.

I just checked my settings and it said "The sun is up - Go outside!"
Told you this app is smart.

It's in the context menu. Click icon in Menu Bar > Disable > [current app].

I was turned on to the app a while back. I use it on my work computer, and have found my eyes aren't nearly as fatigued after sitting in front of 2 screens all day when I have it enabled (to a slight degree).
I also downloaded it for my phone, but it seemed to change the colors too drastically (even when trying to adjust it to be subtle), so I uninstalled it.
I also have it on my TV, set appropriately so I hardly even notice it.
