Gremlin, you around? We used one of your synths on this one: https://soundcloud.com/jorgensandberg/close-fullmix14
Want a credit? I can't find the session, and forgot the name of the synth. But it brought a lot to the track - all presets. Great thing, I'd say.

Bad Link
In the interest of keeping things tight, want to let you know that Suburban Guitarist at this link is apparently no longer available.
http://www.gregjazz.com/download/Sub...aristBeta2.rar
However, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for this always informative thread, Mr. Gremlin.
So......... Thanks.

Trying to re-locate a free vst, and hoping someone may be able to help(spent the last couple hours looking with no luck). It was a free sequencer, possibly drum sequencer?, and had a very interesting grid type matrix, that allowed multiple sequences to move in a horizontal and vertical direction. They rebound off the grids walls and reverse direction causing interesting patterns in many different ways. I thought it was possibly from an old KVR Developers Challenge, but didn't find it there either. If anyone has a clue, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
edit: Just found it on BPB. It was Nova3 from Tonecarver if anyone is interested.

Well, if you have a sample reader/player that reads sf2 (an old sample format), you might want to look at this website:

Here is my thread (the first 230 pages atm) in a clean & updated linklist. The rest (231-8xx) will follow within some weeks or months. This Old Free VSTi Gems From The Past / in short 2015 version has:
- no comments/conversation between the link suggestions
- nearly no links to software or demos, just "free vst" related links
- nearly no dead/outdated links
- no multiple entries for VST's (believe me there is/was many of them in such a big thread! lol)
- updated links to the most serious download location
- enbedded additional keywords for special vst hunters
- brought together informations about a topic from different posts
- additional (safety anker) download locations for rare stuff
- updated content like new links, that was not aviable 2007 - x

~ cheers~

Since many Oatmeal lovers hang out here... do you know how to change the name on a bank's preset? Say from init20 to mypreset.
I know I can save omp and fxp but I rather use banks.

I use the Beyer Virtual Studio for mixes, and it lives up to the sales pitch.
Here's a good one: a VSTi that re-creates a Roland analog drum machine, that's still popular on the dance floor.

I like the sound (but not for its intended purpose). And it looks like it doesn't report its latency to the host.

I tried the Beyer thing-y but found it ridiculously over-the-top. I'd rather just put Ozone, or something, on the master if I'm going to go that route.
I know that the two are not meant for the same thing but, the Beyer just seemed really harsh to me. Maybe that is what it's supposed to reveal.
Anywho, if I was going to mix with headphones, shouldn't I be able to A/B my favorite recordings to get to the same "like/kind and quality" product?

Yeah, but I think it's nice as reverb (room sound).

Well OK, if you like it for that, but that can be achieved with any other number of plu-ins AND the Beyer is doing much more to the sound than just room ambience.

Points taken.
It's just "too much" for my tastes.

That's what it does for me: reveals what's missing. If I get too muddy a sound in the "car audio" preset, I tighten it up a bit.
I can get an honest representation of various environments before going back to the original mix. I never stay in Virtual Studio for the entire mix session, though. I use an Auratone 5C impulse response and sum to mono in the master bus for the same reason. If I can't hear it all in those different sound stages, it needs work, because not everyone hears what the clean mix sounds like.

Ignite Amps has updated their Pultec-style EQ plugin; it now has extensive midrange capability, including variable bandwidth, filtering, and analog modeling for 4 different tube types.
The PTEq-X is in version 1.0.1, for Windows XP/Vista/7/8 VST (32- and 64-bit), and Mac AU (OS-X 10.6).

Mix On Headphones
I have made some free presets for Nebula. Welcome to download and try them at http://mixonheadphones.com/
"Nebula3 presets to enable mixing and mastering on headphones with confidence.
Impulse responses are carefully sampled with Sonarworks Reference 3 at 48kHz.
They produce absolutely the same sound, but with two times less latency and CPU load.
And they are free of charge!
(but you are very appreciated to donate some money, if you find them useful)"
