Default Copy/paste a portion of the item - extremely strange behaviour

Seems so simple and straightforward - but I can't believe it:

I cut a portion of an item and make ctrl+c At some other place I erase a portion and I want to put there that previously copied portion from somewhere else (as I copied it). I do Ctrl+V and now I can't believe my eyes: it is not that copied portion from other place that appears here now, but the original portion from that very place which I just erased ... (and never copied) .... I copy that previous place again , ctrl+v and again the original portion appears there. Maybe on the third attempt it finally works ... It happened to me 20 times at least ... What a kind of strange behaviour it is ?

That's why I prefer just to drag and copy the item ... but sometimes it is too far ..

At least post your operating system and version (windows / mac) and your Reaper version.
That's vital information.

I think I've had this issue too. If I'm right it's because the action you use (and perhaps by default in Reaper) is item: cut area of selected item. Instead you can use item: remove area of selected item.

But what has cutting or removing to do with copying that portion and pasting it (instead of pasting something that was really copied)

A cut is the same as a copy+remove
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cut,_copy,_and_paste
Instead of cutting you'd want to remove it. Then whatever first copied would still be there to paste.
