Default Preview Take on Click

Is it possible to select AND preview a take when clicking on it? Preferably, it should be previewed through the track it's on. Maybe it could be done through Preferences › Mouse Modifiers?

I'm using takes to quickly choose different slices of a sliced drum break. It works great for that, but a preview on click would be terrific. Here's a video showing what it looks like.

Sadly enough, there are no separate mouse modifiers for Takes, would be very cool though.

Mouse Modifiers, context "media item" - left click, work also on Takes.

What you could do:

Make a Custom Action, consisting of:

a) item navigation : move cursor to start of items
b) Transport: Play.

Assign this Custom Action to Mouse Modifiers, context "media item" - left click.
Setting as default Action will get exactly what you want, but then you loose Reaper's
default "select item and move cursor".
I assume this is not what you want.

So problaby better to use a modifier key together with left mouse click on a Take.
Or maybe use the double click context in mouse modifiers - context media item.

Hope this helps !

It can do it even without a click:

SWS/BR: Play from mouse cursor position and solo item and track under mouse for the duration (perform until shortcut released)

And here is another way ...

Thanks guys! I tried this and it works nicely. Only small pain is that it always moves the edit cursor. And storing/restoring it in the action doesn't seem to work.
