Thanks.
But why do we need steps 5 and 6?
I would like to have a track with all the gain modifications set for good, so I can dispense the VST and free up some CPU. Can I do that by RENDERING that track with the VST working like an effect plugin?
And... how do I do that so I can click the ICON so it does not turn off after 90 seconds (demo version)?
*** EDIT ***
OK. I just spent some time figuring some stuff out:
What can be done is:
1) Select all points in the "CurrentGain" envelope, "COPY" all points
2) Active the "Volume" track envelop and select
3) Paste the points of the CurrentGain in the volume envelope.
Then you can remove the VST plug in and you'll have the Gain Rider output set in your track for good. You can leave it like this, continue your work. or render this track and reload back in the DAW.
This is good is you need the extra CPU for something else.
One cool thing that I did with the CurrentGain of GainRider PASTED into the Volume envelop was to Select all the points and nudge them a little bit to the left. What this did was shorten the attack on the volume changes. I found this did a better job reducing some nasty peaks more quickly then what the VST had done. I also moved some other points around to my own liking (i.e. is a fully customized rendition of the VST's output.
I got to say I like what Gain Rider does, now that I can modify its output to my liking.
I even tried it on a guitar track and it did wonders. This is a good compliment/alternative/buddy system to compression. A real eye opener!
It's really fun to see it WRITE the gain changes in the envelop in real time.
And ohhh I kept the VST open so I could click the LOGO ever 15 second to avoid that demo limitations.
