Default Ipad AC-7 Core setup question

I was given a gift app of the AC-7 ipad app. Looks interesting don't know if it is something I will actually use.

But want to try. Not understanding how to set it up with Reaper. Did a search, here and google. No help. Downloaded the rtp midi progam but still have brain cramps.

Anyone use this app that can point me in the right direction?

Oh yea using it on Windows 7.

anyone?
Here is why I wanted to give it a try, (also downloaded the free v-control.
Got it working for a little while, but very glichy, and caused reaper to crash.
However never got AC-7 to work, why I was asking for any help.

Got it as a gift because a friend heard me wishing for some kind of remote transport. Not to mix, set automation etc.

Just want to be able to move away from my computer and control record, functions.

The Frontier Tranzport mounted on mic stand sounds like just the ticket but is no longer produced.
Also the Faderport would work, but it is wired and do not know how far away from computer I could get with it.

Not many options I guess, but any help appreciated.

I'll jump in on this one.

I'm assuming that you've gone to the company site and followed all the directions there first. If not, go here and follow each step (they even have a video), so that you have a working connection between your ipad and the computer via the rtp midi app. Setup instructions are here: http://saitarasoftware.com/Site/Setting_Up.html Once this is done follow these instructions to get it working in Reaper.

Go to Preferences. (Ctrl, P)
Scroll down to Control Surfaces in the left column and select it.
Click on the "Add" button.
A Control Surface Settings window will appear.
Select "Mackie Control Universal" in the dropdown list.
It will now ask for "MIDI input" and "MIDI output".
Go back to the RTP MIDI settings page and note the name of your ipad session.
Go back to the Control Surface Settings window in Reaper and select that name in both of the MIDI input and output dropdown lists.
Select OK.
Select OK again to close the main Preferences dialog.

You should now be good to go.

Hey Thanks Superfly.
Still no go. Faders moved a little... Reaper crashed!

Tried several more times and the rtp midi programs froze.
So Gave it up! Not worth the hassle.
Thanks though

It drove me nuts after many hours and I gave up. I think the docs are poor.

I have the AC-7 Core Mini I bought for my iPod Touch and works just as well on it as it does on my iPad 3. Communication works both ways and is a fantastic tool for remote control for Reaper and other DAWs.

It takes a little bit of trial and error to get it up and running but once done it just works. It has been a while since I set it up or even used it for Sonar X1 or Reaper but it came up working like clockwork just now.

This is the instructions that I used to get it to work with Sonar and quite possibly Superfly76's instructions for Reaper. Hopefully it may be helpful to you as well:

I just installed both the AC7 Core on my iPad and the AC7 Core Mini on my iPhone. Both of them connected but I did have a bit of a time getting the AC7 Core Mini to connect and it appears the reason was because I needed to restart the rtpMIDI service. Once I did that, it found my device and then everything worked fine.

I did not have any issues with the AC7 Core though. What I did was the following:

1) Installed the App on my iPad
2) Installed the rtpMIDI service
3) Selected and added the iPad device from within the rtpMIDI GUI
4) Enabled the PC running Sonar from within the rtpMIDI GUI
5) Started up Sonar and selected an existing project. This project already had the V-Studio 700 setup as a control surface
6) Added the Mackie Control surface to the project and made sure both the Input and Output were set as the PC running Sonar
7) Applied the changes and exited from the project settings
8) Selected the Mackie control surface
9) Started the AC7 Core App on my iPad
10) Clicked on the mode button until Sonar Mode appeared right above where it says master volume
11) Clicked on the Reset button

After that I played some of the project, moved faders etc... It even worked with my V-Studio 700 and controlled all the faders on the console.

Are you on mac or pc? I assume PC as macs don't need to run rtpmidi. It can connect directly.

I'm on a pc and still have never got it to work.
The setup utubes, and steps are leaving something out.

The rtpMIDI locks up... then have to reboot. Reaper locks up... then crashes.

Said several time... give it up!!

Then try one more time and get more problems... Reaper does some weird stuff when trying.

Man just wanted to use it for a Transport away from my computer.

Going to buy a used Frontier Trazport.

every one of these Ipad apps I have tried is squirrely.

Hmmm. Don't know what else to suggest.

Have you tried creating an ad-hock network between your pc and iPad? Sometimes wireless routers can mess with this stuff.

A few other things to check:

Disable antivirus
Disable any spyware protection
Disable firewall
Turn off UAC

You can do this for testing. Remember, that you're not safe for general web browsing and surfing with all this disabled, but your DAW performance will improve. Don't do anything risky if you have all this disabled. You can also get by with a lighter, less obtrusive virus scan package like Microsoft Security Essentials.

It seems like you're having trouble with your network connection if you are having trouble with any of these type of iPad apps. AC-7 core works great here. I use it as you describe, a remote transport. I also adjust headphone mixes with it.

Another app to try out is TouchOSC. Reaper now has native OSC support, so no need for an intermediary program like RTPmidi. Reaper handles the connection directly. It's also a bit cheaper than the others, and is really cool.

Tried v-control free ..lt works... But the full version is not worth the price... Could pick a Frontier Tranzport for a little more.
Also tried air display... Works great as a second monitor. Can drag transport into ipad. But buttons are so small.
Sure wanted to get AC-7Core working...just cannot get it..

Might try touchOSC. Looks like it would work.

Thanks for the help

Well what do you know. Finally got AC-7 Core to work. To me this is the best app.
Tried V-control free but AC-7 is great.

Just one thing... Can you delete a take with it or undo?

I set it up a while ago with an alternate Mackie driver given to me by someone here on the forum (search my threads and you'll find the conversation).

It works great once you get it set up.

i spent a lot of time reading the manual and it just didn't make sense to me after many hours of playing with it. For my old brain I need much better documentation to use it.

Well...spoke too soon....

Works sometimes... Then when it does not work too much hassle to go through steps over and over to find out why.

Often sliders move as I move them in Reaper with mouse, meters run on ipad ...but no control from ipad

Too distracting.. So gave it up for good.

That sucks but you can get a refund.

Give TouchOSC a try. It's not perfect and it doesn't have fancy graphics but it's been rock solid on my iphone and easy to set up too. Only $5

More OSC updates are coming too REAPER soon too so it will get even better.

digging this one up because it's first on google when I search for AC-7 with reaper.

I got this to work, sort of! (Just downloaded AC-7 Core Solo for iPhone, it was $3.99). What I believe many people have trouble with (I certainly did) was when opening rtpMIDI, their iPod or iPhone (I only have an iPhone) doesn't show up. Normally, it should show up under Directory, and you can select it to Connect to your "Session" (your computer).

I had to MANUALLY add my iPhone by clicking the plus button under Directory and entering the IP address of the phone as it is connected to my wifi LAN. (This is more an exercise in computer networking than anything else). How did I find out what the IP address is of my iPhone? I had to go to my router settings page. I have a Netgear so I enter 192.168.0.1 in my browser and entered the admin username/pass. (It's probably admin/admin or admin/password if you haven't changed yours yet. Change it!)

Anywho, somewhere in those settings you can find a list of devices connected to your router (wirelessly or not). Mine was under "trusted devices" or something like that.

Turns out my iPhone is at 192.168.0.12:5004

Once I added it, I was able to connect it, see that it has some latency, and I was relatively good to go after adding it as a Mackie Universal control surface in Reaper. Note: whatever your session is called in rtpMIDI will show up as a MIDI device in Reaper. Do NOT enable those inputs/outputs, as it will cause the control surface to not connect and not function. Set the input and output in the control surface setting in Reaper preferences (it's toward the bottom) to the name of the session in rtpMIDI.

Wahlah.

HOWEVER, I disabled the output in the control surface settings because all I got was garage feeding back to my iPhone, like weird bouncing faders as the level changed and lots of incoherent symbols. Does anyone know how to get reaper and AC-7 to speak the same language? It works fine as a "one-way" remote.

Default Reaper and AC7

Hi all,

I'm using Klinke v0.8.2.3. The Ac7 is working great. There are threads out there that can help you, just search Klinke. Mackie control surface would not work either.

However, my Select -Tracks-Items-Takes-Create, etc Menu page on the AC7 does not control the software remotely. There may be other buttons that do not work either, not sure at this time. Need to get past this first. Is there a switch in Reaper that will allows the AC 7 to control Reaper's menu buttons? Also, how would I set up my Function buttons to work with the AC 7?

Does anybody in the forum know how to do this? I'm sure it's something I am missing.

Thanks!

RD
