Default Reverb Ducking

Have searched the Forum and google but still am struggling to achieve this.

I'm trying to duck the reverb of a vocal using the reacomp but I get so far through an online tutorial but at the last minute - it doesn't work.

Can anyone point me to any tutorials or simplify how to do this?

many thanks

Oliver

I should do a video on this because it's something I use on most mixes, but basically it's the same setup as gated reverb, using a compressor instead of gate.

Here's my gated reverb video

Great video! Using the dry snare signal makes a world of difference. I'd only played around with trying to create gated toms and snare once that I can remember, and they didn't gate like I had hoped. Now I know why.

Reaper User Guide
Chapter 19 Parameter Modulation

You can use the source signal to modulate the Reverb's Wet or Output level.

Excellent video

Now for reverb ducking you can either use ReaGate in ducking-mode, or (more usual) ReaComp

Thank you so much for this guys. Can't believe I got to over 50 years of age and have never used this very cool effect before....maybe that's why I've never made it

Yes, that's it. It cos I've never ducked my reverb before.

Again cheers for the advice

Maybe I should ask this in a more general 'sidechain compression' topic. But often when I try to duck the bass with a kick signal I can still hear a dull, unpleasant portion of the actual kick in the bass track. I followed the tutorials and made sure I got everything right... (at least, I think I did).

Complicating matters.. I remember once when I used a stem of the bass instead of a VST (can't remember which VST) it seemed to go away. For a while, anyhow. When I got it working right I didn't change anything and just hoped for the best.

Anyone else noticed issues like this?

sounds like you are not sending the kick into the sidechain but only to the main signal path. compressor is applying to bass and kick instead of bass influenced by kick.

awesome video. learned several things, including the click and drag to set up the send, damn.

love the use of ReaGate here, this is super useful.

Thanks, that's what I first thought. So I double checked. I was using the 3/4 aux. input for the kick in the bass track.

Btw, I mixed something up in first try at explaining this. Correction in bold..

the other thing is that the track might not be set to 4-channels.
