Default 3u rack recommendations?

Reaperites

Can people please recommend a good portable 3u rack for audio interface. It needs to:

- Be cheap!
- Be sturdy enough for me to use it to put my interface in and out of the car!
- Have handle(s)!
- HAVE LATCHES THAT BLOODY WORK AND DON'T GO LOOSE AFTER 6 MONTHS, YES I'M LOOKING AT YOU GATOR, STAY OUT OF MY WAY! FAIL!

Any recommendations?

I'd contact Barry Cases. Totally customizable and still quite a bit cheaper than 'name brand' rack cases.

Budget boxes seem to all have mini catches these days. I've bought a few and all fail eventually. My old style SKB (USA) boxes carry on regardless with proper spring loaded butterfly catches.

For my (closely guarded) money a decent second hand box is a better bet than a new flimsy one.

all my cheap racks have had the latches fail pretty quickly.

I'm currently using one of these : http://www.skbcases.com/music/produc...&c=102&o=&s=78 and it is VERY awesome.

but it certainly doesn't match your first requirement.

Yowsa that's a thing of beauty!

It seems a great shame that cases like my Gator 3U are build perfectly adequately in every way EXCEPT for the show-stopping lame-ass latches which didn't take long to start ruining my life...

I think second hand is the way to go too! So SKB are generally reliable - but only with the 'old style' latches, or what?

One of the main things I look at now in portable racks is how they orientate the latch on lid and box. Some put the movable turn key lock on the box and others on the lid. SKB puts them on the lid as they should be. Sounds like a little thing until that part starts to rattle as you play on the other style. My only problem with the 3U version is it's a shallow depth. If this is a consideration for you, you might have to move to the 4U deep rack. They also include a back set of rails in the box. But yeah, SKB gets my vote.
