Midi controller/python script question
Weird one for you guys.
I have a mpd24 pad controller that matched in a 3way with poise and reaper has reduced my mpc to a dust collector.
Thing is, I have had this thing (the mpd24) for years even during the sonar years and it has always done the same thing to me. After I close reaper and re open it I get midi device not found or cannot connect to mpd 24 or some crap.(this happened in sonar as well as reaper if I can recall.
My solution power off the mpd then turn it back on. I can do this inside reaper and it works again.
All of this power cycling is done by removal and replacement of the usb cable, as it is bus powered.
no other midi hardware has ever done this.
This unit has no drivers mind you. Its not one of those kinds of issues.
Now the fun part
So I have just started to learn python (basic basic basic)
and I messed around a bit with os.startfile to automate a spreadsheet, database, and a 3d app to open at the same time with one launcher. This gave me an Idea..
can python disconnect a usb/midi device? Or killmidi ? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
See the hope here is to create a .py file that kills my controller then reaper opens.
Anyway any thoughts?
I have looked in reapers prefs for a force disconnect at shutdown but nothing.
Thanks again guys.

ok after researching this further, it seems my efforts would be better focused in purchasing a new controller. I would have to create a module that communicates sub driver level, and I don't think I'll be ready for this kind of thing for a while.
please disregard thread.

I wonder if midi-ox or another tool already exists that might better handle midi devices and pass them to reaper. There are tons of forum posts about how frustrating it is to frequently reset reaper for controller disconnects.

I've been looking for a way to do this to do this so I can have handle multiple articulations from a single midi edit window, and there it is
Huge thanks for this link!
