I like to have single takes with no punch-ins or edits of this sort.

But it can still be a very useful feature in a pinch when you've got that magical take that has one annoying little clam in it that needs a bump this way or that.

But regardless of any of this, it utterly *boggles my mind* that a DAW as rudimentary as GarageBand has a feature along these lines and Reaper does not, despite being superior in so many ways.
