Default Importing Zoom R 16 Files to Reaper?

Hi,
In a few days I will be recording a friend's piano (instrumental) music.

I am going to use my Zoom R 16, and then transfer the resulting WAV files to Reaper for mixing, and would appreciate some advice about this because of an issue I had with some WAVs that I recorded in the R 16 a few years ago, and also because I am relatively new to using Reaper as my regular DAW.

The issue I had a few years ago concerned having recorded old cassette-based demos to my R 16, and then playing them back on a couple of computers a few months later. Despite the fact that these recordings sounded fine on my R 16 at the time I transferred them from cassette (and continued to sound fine when played back on the
R 16), when I later played them on the computers, there was hardly any level at all.

Perhaps I should have added a compressor or something when I was transferring the files, but as I said above, they sounded fine on the R 16. To be clear, I transferred the 'raw' WAV files, without mastering them within the R 16.

So, my questions are:
1. As long as I get a decent recording level of my friend's piano music, should the resulting WAVs be fine, in terms of level, when I subsequently import them to Reaper (importing as a Media item, I presume)?

2. If I need to do something else to make these files more 'usable' in Reaper, what would I need to do?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
